That indoor two mile was short. The laps were miscounted.

Did you dig up a four year old thread just to say that?

What level of idiocy have you attained?
You were the one digging it up!
First off, what year did Marshfield High (or its middle school) have a BOYS softball team? The answer would be never.
Secondly, this is complete B.S. I like Lindgren, admired what he did in high school and college, growing up not far from Pullman or Spokane, so I know of him and saw him when I was a little kid run in Pullman. He was great.
But let's look at this story: Lindgren had heard of Pre before he was a runner. REALLY? He heard he was cut from a softball team that didn't exist so he went to cheer up this non-running softball player? Holy crap, this story gets worse the longer its told. The softball player immediately knows who Gerry Lindgren is? Why would he?
Lindgren is amusing, I wouldn't trust anything he says, however.
Lindgren's on facebook. Occasionally, he'll post about races he was in against Pre.
Most of the time his posts are a glimpse into madness.
Nice guy but very goofy/dorky.

Say what you will about Jerry Lindgren's personal life, but I agree with a Runners World article that called him the "greatest high school runner who ever lived".
Nah. Jim Ryun

Lindgren regularly looked up kids that had been cut from teams that didn't exist to encourage them. Pre was the ONLY one that had the GUTS to call him a wimp. It was a PURE GUTS insult!!!
Where does Jerry live now ? Is it legal to smoke what he's smoking?
I just checked out his fb page - he's a little off, but mostly he's hilarious in a total goofball sort of way. Thanks for the tip!

What is more hard to stomach is how lindgren ran out on his wife and kids with out any notice, ran away and hid in Hawaii, talk about a total t-bag, he is a wimp and a sorry excuse for a human being. No class.
Half of America is divorced and giving notice is hardly going to make much difference

runners these days don't have enough arrogance
No, a person should never have arrogance. Confidence, yes. But not arrogance.
I bet Pre's arrogance originally stemmed from his insecurities due to his lack of ability in other sports. Since he didn't have a big body he decided to have a big mouth instead. I guess when he found his sport, running, the arrogance just carried over.
I'm surprised Gerry didn't say he ran all the way from Spokane to Coos Bay and back to deliver his inspirational message.
"psychopathic personality"
not so - he is schizophrenic - big difference and really gives much more explanation about the 'way he is' and has been for many years.
Wasn't Gerry 'undefeated' in college? ... as he won the 3 and 6 miles in NCAA x3 to add to his 3x NCAA XC.
One of the more amazing races he had was beating the Russians in the 10k in USA v Russia meet ... when the Russians were the Kenyans of that era. That was big news in the sports world ..., not just the running. He had just graduated and another kid from Kansas was making noise of his own. He won by ~21sec after utilizing that aqmazing changing of pace.
Without a sprained ankle in 64 Olympics there may well have been no "Look at Mills. Look at Mills" US Oly trials he beats Mills by ~45 yds ....
but what is a bit less impressive but worth mentioning... in the USSR v USA meet there were 50,000+ spectators in the US!
As a runner Lindgren was amazing to watch and brought much attention to the sport.
Jim Ryun beat Lindgren in college.
Psychosis isn't funny, either to laugh with or at.

This doesn't seem like arrogance to me -

Point taken. Maturity is a wonderful thing. Obviously he grew up a lot.
Met him seven years ago in Utah. He was a guest at a HS elite dream mile out here. Spent 3 days on and off talking with him.He was so easy to talk with. Actually you get comfortable right off and he is funny. Told me things about his running life and personal. They matched exactly with men who had been to Russia or Germany with him and I spoke with years before...Gerry didn't know at the time. I think of the total screw ups and those I hurt when I was young...Gerry seemed a much better person than I. Wish You all could meet him you would fill like he is a buddy you have had for years.
