What is more hard to stomach is how lindgren ran out on his wife and kids with out any notice, ran away and hid in Hawaii, talk about a total t-bag, he is a wimp and a sorry excuse for a human being. No class.

I wouldn't mind it one bit if someone as weird as Lindgren didn't think highly of me. And I don't believe anything he says anyways. I'm not a huge Pre fan, but I'm even more so definitely not a Lindgren fan.

Try getting the sh*t beaten out of you by your drunk father every night all through your childhood and turn out to be a completely "put together" individual. I'm not trying to defend Gerry for leaving his family here, but at least the guy changed the history of US running and did SOMETHING with his life instead of being a delusional nobody. I am still blown away that he holds the HS indoor 2mile record (that I think he ran at MSG 160yd oval?) from 1964... 1964!!

All that being said, I do get a kick out of his stories.

Met Gerry several times and enjoyed him tremendously. He has a wealth of knowledge that all could learn from. There are some really sick individuals out there who hold things in his personal life (that they will never understand) against this poor guy. Give it a rest. As we have seen throughout history those that point their stubby little fingers at others are usually the sickest of the lot.

Gerry accomplished more in his running career than anybody on this board. Listen and learn, and if he embellishes and pontificates enjoy the entertainment.

Precisely. They're our local Taliban equivalent: their sickness and self-loathing has them sticking their nose up everyone else's ass, so they can denounce the next guy for being even more f***ed up than they are.

Ya you're absolutely right there. Anyone that would take pot shots at someone who cannot defend themselves epitomizes "wimp".

Lindgren told me that story in Eugene a few years ago before the Pre .... but

he has really embellished it here and shows his psychopathic personality.

IE He never used to say "I really hated that guy" ... in his story.

I'm sorry I ever bought any of his books now.

Many LR posters were in the game back then and ran in races with Gerry the Jogger and Pre some even Ryan. A few even toed the line with Edelen and Corbitt.

I "toed the line" with Corbitt, and I'm not even that old. (He was, though--53 at the time.) Stood right next to him at the start of the AAU marathon in 1972.

He took off from the gun and was literally out of (my) sight within a minute and a half. I never saw him again.

Corbitt was a huge hero of mine. By coincidence, I had dressed next to him in the locker room before the race. Didn't say a word to him, naturally--too much in awe.

Same thing when I was in Jim Ryun's (note spelling) dorm at NAU in 1968. We were in the same elevator/rec room/etc. many times--never said a word.

I'm sure if you asked him Gerry would tell you that he was about to surge and catch and pass Pre everytime they races, but didn't get a chance before the race ended.
