"True" is a little quicker and easier than "non-redshirted"--and is a little closer to what the average person understands by "freshman" (i.e. NOT someone in his/her first year of eligibility, but someone in his/her first year of college). Its use is valid.
And "full" mile/2mi/etc. is bothering me less, not more, as time goes by. The number of people who call four laps on a 400m track a "mile" is, if anything, growing; and I'm getting tired of guys' being described as "sub-9:00 two-milers" when, in fact, they ran 8:58 for 3200.
