Alright, I just bet by buddy that German Fernandez was not the ONLY true freshman to win the NCAA 1500m/mile. I had thought I recalled that either Jim Ryun or Bob Kennedy had done this, but after looking it up found that NCAA rules prohibited Ryun from competing in the championships his freshman year, and that Kennedy didn't win until his sophmore year (despite winning CC as a freshman.)
Did ANYONE win the NCAA 1500m/mile as a true freshman before German, or did I lose the bet?

Nice! Yep, his Wiki profile says he won as a freshman...but I can't find results. This gomer I bet still says, "dude, everyone knows Leo didn't win."
Where can I get some results for 2005 NCAA Outdoors? I thought I'd be able to find them just at the NCAA website but couldn't.

leo for sure, who cares if he was old, german is young for his grade, leo is old - cancel each other out you have an average aged freshman that won
Kennedy didn't even qualify for the NCAA championships his freshman year. He ran 3:44 for 1500 and 14:20 for 5000.
He did win the Big 10 1500 and took 4th or 5th in the 5000.
He had an injury during the indoor season.

Before Leo won (as a true frosh) in 2005, the highest finish for a true frosh was Gabe Jennings in 1998, who was leaned out for the win by Seneca Lassiter.
Don Sage won as a sophomore, he was fifth as a frosh.
Anyone that refers to a freshman as a "true" freshman is a fuqing idiot.
Same with anyone using "full" mile.

He was 20, I thought for sure he was a redshirt freshman.
Yeah we used the term "true" freshman just to mean NOT a redshirt freshman. So even if there is a 26 year old that won in his first year...i'd lose the bet.

berryhill was good, but no one thought he was our next big miler. He lost to alan webb at Pre when they were both seniors...but webb was a hs senior. Everyone that year thought webb was our next big miler. I am willing to bet that if ask, 95% of letsrunners would have cited webb as our next big miler.i was a fan of berryhill, front ran the 1500 at ncaas for the win, pretty ballsy
