I agree. The leaders closed in 56 in the last lap. Rupp could have come home in 62 and still gone under 13:00.

I'm very proud MANY of our American middle and long distance runners (high school to veterans) and think they will make EVEN MORE impressive strides in the 800m to 10000m before the upcoming Olympics. If Galen stays healthy most of his career he will run sub 12:45 and 26:40 before he is 30 years old and I'm not a big Galen fan- the kid is just focused and talented!

This is why people don't like rupp fans. You're just going off pure speculation. None of us know whats going to happen in the future. I personally think bekele can run a sub 58 half marathon and 2hr flat full marathon but that doesn't mean its going to happen. The kid hasn't broken 27 and 13 yet and here we are again........speculating. Lets wait till he actually DOES IT FIRST. None of this speculating crap.

Sports is made up of alot of speculating by fans and athletes. Why do you think fantasy nba, nfl, track etc have grown so rapidly over the past several years. The internet is full of different website and anaylst who do nothing more than speculate and thus its part of sports!

Great stats and another point is Chris Solinsky made a big jump from 2009 to 2010. Galen has made decent improvement every year so just wait til he gets that big jump in improvement that ALL (Chris Solinsky, Haile, Paula, Tirunesh, Kenenisa, Shalane, Jenny, Anna P etc) distance runners get in their careers.

Yeah I can't wait hopefully that big jump comes next year and 12:52 and 26:50 for 2011 World Championships.

Most world-class athletes on the male side get that jump at an earlier age than 24 (Haile, Kenenisa, etc.). Solinsky is a touch later because he was brought up like most US 'distance runners'. Bob Kennedy was similar (12:58, almost 20 YEARS AGO!). Rupp, on the other hand, has had a lot of [professional] nurturing since 10th grade- not quite the same. He had his last huge jump last year. Though he's probably in 13:02/27:04 shape right now, don't be expecting anymore 10+ sec drops in the 5K or 10K. Saying 12:45/26:40 is just completely moronic. He'll level out for a few years, then move up to the marathon.

To say that Rupp won't make any big improvement is pure specualtion just as those who say he is due such an improvment; therefore, you are just ignorant. Predicting improvement or the lack of improvement in an athlete's future regardless of what its based on is the same speculation.
