Oh, wow.
He ran three seconds faster than the world record.
For the 3000m STEEPLE EFFING CHASE.
This is why the Kenyans are winning.
I'd love it if you can show me which Kenyans are running 7:53 for the steeple, or even sub 8:00 for that matter.
Even a great Kenyan can run sub par when they have to blow out the rust. The point is where they are going, not where they are on a comeback.
Didn't he used to run a similar time for the full deuce?
Buster is working his way back to fitness steadily. 7.50 is a nice step forward after a long break from serious level racing. He is still along way off his top game.
Mottram has something in his mind and he's going to take a shot at it. The big question is, if he does run sub 13:20, beat Birmingham, etc., will he persuade Athletics Australia to give him a Commonwealth spot?
Kid is motivated...might be all he needs to get back to form.
he won't be taking anyone's spot in the 5000m for the commonwealth games team unless mcneill offers to race the 10000m. St Lawrence is auto, A and National champ, Collis is fastest at the moment and McNeill is NCAA champ. I think St Lawrence and McNeill are better chances for the win in Delhi than Buster anyway. Buster and Collis are better and have and will always have faster pb's, but finishing speed wins champs and the other 2 have it all over them in that department.
I can think back to the Olympics when Craig Stevens was pressured to let Thorpe take the spot he had. Media and sponsorships played heavily in that, and I'm sure that along with political clout will also come into play here. Mottram is the current Commonwealth silver medalist for 5000m. As it stands in 2010, his 7.50 3000m ranks second only to St. Lawrence's 7.49. Mottram's 13.36 rust buster, I believe, ranks 4th on the Oz list for 2010. Not bad for 2 races in about a month. Watch for him to be either faster or just below Collis in August. Regardless, Mottram will definitely bring Australia's best shot come October. Add August and September...Buster will be flying!

You are an idiot. 7:53 is the world record, by a Kenyan (born) runner.
8:00 is the season leader for now. Six guys under 8:10 I think.
At the world level, 7:50 in a flat 3000 is hardly worth mentioning, except to Buster's mom. Or fanboys like yourself, apparently.
Met and talked to Mottram at a Europe meet a couple years back. Alls I have to say is, guys a character. Track needs more guys like Mottram.
Can't help but wonder whether he might make a bid for the 10000m. He is supposed to be racing a 5 soon, I think Collis will also run the same race. Collis recently ran 13.10 and hopefully will pop 13.05. Buster will probably struggle to run 13.20 at this stage.
He won't be a contender in the 10 at Delhi but he will be keen to get back on the team and it may be his best chance.
