I'd agree that the particular system instituted at some top tier d1 schools is almost torture, and I would never want to put myself through it. However, it's the same way with all d1 sports, not just with xc/track. Running for a program that will dominate your life is a choice made by an individual.I would hate to give up the balance in my life I have right now. I've got a great social and academic life, and I've improved a whole lot in my running.
