It all depends on you personally. some people are better suited for 1200 if they are more 800 orientated. and some may not have as fast of 800 and 1200m PRs but run low 4 minutes in the mile. some might run 2:55 but cant run under 4:15 for a mile and some might be 2:58 guys who have run 4:03. also, its important to take into account that running 1200m competetively is limited to merely the first leg of the DMR. which to be in a race to run very quick isn't that often. (last chance meets, a few of the really big races) mile races are a lot more common.
someone should host a meet where they have an open 1200 indoors?
makes more sense than the 1000..especially since it is a dmr event
Average conversion would be that one should be able to stretch from 1200m to 1600m by slowing down 3 seconds per 400. Hence,
2:51 = 4:00 (for 1600 which equals 4:0 for full mile)
3:00 = 4:12
3:09 = 4:24
3:18 = 4:36
3:27 = 4:48
3:36 = 5:00
3:45 = 5:12
Strength types will do a little better, speed types a little worse.
4:00 for 1600 is 4:01.7 for full mile
If you have really accurate splits then take your splits for 400m left, 300m left, 200m left, and 100m left. Then you can see how much you were slowing down coming in to the finish of the 1200. Example 3:03:
400m 60
800m 2:04
900m 2:20 - 16
1000m 2:35 - 15
1100m 2:49 - 14
1200m 3:02 - 13
In this instance you are accelerating towards the finish and while you probably won't continue the acceleration it will give you a completely different scenario than this example of a faster 1200, 3:02:
400m 60
800m 2:00
900m 2:14 - 14
1000m 2:29 - 15
1100m 2:44 - 15
1200m 3:02 - 18
In this scenario you are dead by the end and would not be able to continue on at any reasonable pace.

Speaking of 1200m.....Did anyone catch this pedestrian looking 2:55 on the lead of leg at nat's? What's a 2:55 solo time trial convert to a mile? Is this guy have a shot outdoors? His 2:55 looked pretty easy.

Hey KIA...
Whoever you are...
I am not the poster "well" as you have assumed by posting my nickname...and although I do know who you are, I will not stoop to the level of trying to out someone on a message board out of sheer pomposity in an attempt to bolster my sense of self-worth...
Thanks...
3:06 is equivalent to a 4:18 1600.
Anyone ever find a good conversion factor? Shannon Flockhart and Margot Appleton went out in 3:15 in the Penn DMR, I'm wondering what that's worth.
