Twice, maybe three times, rinsed in the shower after each run and hung to try.
More wearings than that seems to make them more likely to cause chafing, maybe because I don't get 100% of the salt rinsed out in the shower. I bet a motivated person could use a few drops of shampoo to clean them in the shower, and never need to launder them.
Dude! Washing machines have these buttons and knobs and things. They are there for a reason . . . like when you only want to, say, wash a pair of shorts, socks, T-shirt, cap, a pair of smelly shoes even . . . look for a setting that will only use a very little water, one rinse, throw in a little detergent, and a good spin. The stuff will dry in an hour on a hanger, perhaps longer if it's humid, but not too long.
I don't suggest throwing everything in the dryer every day, however. That is hard on most clothing.
I would wash my shorts, but it seems such a waste if I'm going to be doing all my laundry once a week. Thus, I have approximately one pair of shorts for every day of the week. On second runs, I recruit a pair of skanky long shorts and wear compression briefs underneath them since my second runs are short. I throw every pair of shorts in the dirty clothes hamper after one use. Sometimes I try to go two weeks with all of my shorts, but that gets to be very questionable. I usually end up wearing a used pair of shorts at least 3 times on second runs. Wearing used shorts in the morning to practice is a sign of desperation. If I do my laundry once a week, things usually work out, but when things get tight, it's hard not to just pull a skanky pair out of the pile and use them one... last... time.
Ah. I live in SC, so it is Hot and Humid. Just the other day I went for a run at 6:30am and came home with soaked shorts. I came into my bedroom, where they were hanging on the door to dry for the next day, and the whole room reeked of sweat/body odor. I have a few running shorts that I switch out throughout the week. I don't really have a problem with reusing dirty ones, though, because I still wear underwear.

Wearing underwear under your shorts is even worse than reusing a pair.
I agree!It's hot and humid in Okinawa, too. Hanging up a pair of shorts sans-washing is just asking for trouble . . . but even the mosquitoes stay away from that hazardous material, so that's good.

Wearing underwear under your shorts is even worse than reusing a pair.
Until they turn stiff enough to stand on their own in the corner, then run away faster than I can catch them. I.e. after about 3 sessions. Just don't stay downwind of me on the roads.

i'll admit that sometimes i see how stiff and smelly i can get a pair of shorts before washing them just to gross my wife out or random people i pass on the street - maybe do a solid week in one pair hahahahahahahaha
