I made my way over to the tracktalk.tk thing this afternoon. I'll be honest by saying I am impressed over 1100 people have registered there. But what is with these kids and advertising business offers to the public? Seems a bit idiotic if you ask me.
I was tickled at the rumor that suggested John Dye could/would sue the free board.
Then John will have DIED twice.

and where was that tickle exactly
I asked my dad about the lawsuit thing because he is the most qualified person I know (he went to Yale Law and is currently a corporate lawyer for a semiconductor company). Anyway, he told me that there is a specific court case where it was determined that you cannot sue on the basis of "look and feel". Look and feel is exactly what they would be claiming; this site looks and feels just like the dyestat message board. The only way they would be able to sue is if John Dye had a legitimate copyright on something used in his message boards that we are also currently using. For example, if something were posted at the top of our message boards that said "TrackTalk: The Successor to Dyestat", then, he could sue. As it is, we are completely fine (from what I understand).
copied from tracktalk.tk
looks like the lawsuit is a no-go.
:)
Steveu wouldn't sue tracktalk
Oh... figures. You are a trust fund kid with loads of a Yale Law Grad's money. I'm green with envy. I wish I could be rich too and travel on meet junkets all year long on my parent's money. But my dad was just a dumb Army guy. Good luck with your new fanboy site !

There was talk about it definetely.
He was not happy about losing his entire dyestat community to tracktalk instead of ESPN Rise.
Just take a look, like 200 posts total at ESPN Rise and already several thousand users and posts at tracktalk.
Should have not sold out on us... nor ESPN should have stuck their nose where it did not belong.
If you have money already and have chosen to dishonestly ask people for money in order to get your website going and as publicity ruse to attract more users then that's bad form. There are real people who need money and you should not take advantage of people on the good nature of people on letsrun.com in this manner.

talk is cheap. John and the dead squad can be upset all they want but the fact of the matter is nothing can happen to them. The tk community has done nothing wrong other than stick together. I think that is commendable personally.
with all the bickering and online banter going on, I can't imagine how long that community will actually hold together. I feel bad for the one admin who actually knows his stuff.

Dishonesty? they are using a free forum with a free .tk link. Their user base is expanding rapidly. If they don't need the money I don't know who does.
...except for starving children in Africa. they might need it.
RIP diestat

Quit showboating. Anyone with half a brain can type in tracktalk.net into a website and push search. Get over yourself.

what would happen if you don't get a new premium forum? how much more room to do you have to expand before you are out of room for more posts/users? Perhaps any situation here might have been helped by a little moderation: deleting multis and, if needed or applicable, threads that go off-topic and go against any message board rules? It doesn't seem like that should be of any concern at the moment, though, with not even 13,000 posts and not even 1,350 users. It's still a fairly small message board, and I'd think the simplest of options can still do just fine for that message board community.

So what a lot of the idiot posters on this site are saying is that John Dye took an idea and put in thousands of hours to create something for free, which helped us all keep track of our sport, should be scorned. And Becca with PVP, who again, created something out of nothing, spent countless hours doing this free service, only to make us more informed should be taken to task since she accepted ads?
Lets stop and take a deep breath folks. We should be so grateful to anyone who has a dream, uses their time and energy to make things better for us in the cross country or track world. We owe this folks a HUGE debt of gratitude for trying to help us. When Tom at TrackShark spent thousands of his own dollars to keep his dream alive only to have his site go under financially, there were actually people who complained.
Honestly, this is the worst side of posters, complaining about something that they get for free.
