Hey everyone,
Is there anyway to tell if a track is 400 meters or .25 mile? Is there a difference? Does 1600 meters equal 1 mile?
Thanks!

1600 is a little less than a mile. Most tracks are 400m.
One lap is 400 meters.
1 mile equals 1609 meters.
if its a 400m track (likely) than you will see another line for the mile about 10-15 paces behind the finish line to add the extra 9 meters as noted above. If not, then you're on an English/Imperial/US Customary whatever 440y track and 4 laps is a true mile. These are getting few and far between.
Thanks everyone for the info....

Wow, no one bashed him. I'm amazed.
If you?re such a moron that you didn?t know the difference between 1600m and a mile then it doesn?t make a didly bit of difference whether the track is in yards or meters because you probably can?t count the laps as you run. Any idiot knows that if you see a mile start behind the finish line then the track is in meters or if you see a 400 start in lane one in front of the finish line then the track is in yards. If neither applies then look at the staggers and see if they read 400m start or 440y start. We wouldn?t want to see you break the world record in the mile only to have it not ratified because you started at the wrong line!
