Not sure if Jim Hill ever broke 4 mins, but as the owner and founder of Sporthill, he's gotta be rakin in the dough.
Jim Hill ran a 3:56 in 1982 and he's very rich.

Jim Hill is not as rich as Marty Liquori. Or at least as Marty once was. I think we need to specify. Do we define 'richest' to mean richest at some point in their life (in inflation corrected USD) or richest now or some other definition?
I would bet that it's someone few of us ever heard about.
Herb Elliott is worth at least $50m. It was reported in the Australian press that he LOST $30m in one deal that went bad.
Herb was CEO of Puma for a while in Aus and was also a Shell executive for a while. He has done okay and not really related to running. He is a Rhodes Scholar.
Marty was probably one of the first of the sub-4 guys to make enough money and invest wisely. If I remember correctly he was already a millionaire before age 30.
As for Jim Hill, he might be wealthy, but the company Sporthill is not a major player in the athletic apparel market.
El Guerrouj won the Golden League jackpot a few times, some of the years I believe he was the only winner, so that would give him several million alone. He had a decent salary plus contracts and prize money--that's a good amound of money from running.
Didn't Alan Webb have a 6 year $250,000 a year contract that he could take prize money and other incentive on top of?
Brian Maxwell spent his last $50 on the final ingredients for Power Bar - he made a well-deserved fortune.
However, there is no way on this earth that he could break 4 minutes for the mile - even donwhill, with a rock in his pocket and the wind at his back.
R.I.P....died too young.
me.
my wife an MD. ( specialist, not GP )
In one year she makes 100x the prize money I got for winning the Pre mile. And she makes that every year.
