Ok, so I started building mileage for my first university XC season. I'm seeing an AT about leg pain I've had in the past (3 years) that I had been seeing a chiro for who got rid of alot of the pain, but there is still some that keeps comming back (i want it gone for good!), anyways the At believes it's a herniated disc (I'm seeing a doctor next week)
Now the real problem is that the athletic therapist I'm seeing wants me to refrain from running for the next while and spend my time in the pool, as well as on the elliptical trainer and the stair master. What i was wondering is if anyome had any ideas for workouts to do on them. I Was upt about 65-70 km/week and will be running (hopefully) 90km/week in the fall. I've ran about 15:3# for 5km.
oh, and the pool i'm running in is only about 4 ft deep... so normal deep water pool running type workouts aren't exactly possible.
Thanks for any help.
cross training, elliptical training, stari climbing, etc...

I have found crosstraining to be beneficial when injured and I still use the eliptical trainer and my mountain bike to replace "junk miles" in my program. Now that I am in my late 30's, it spares a great deal of pounding and aids my recovery. The important thing to remember is that cross training is not a substitute for your quality sessions or long runs. Still do those religiously. Just use cross training to replace easy morning efforts and recovery runs until your back gets better.

see... the problem is, that I don't really have a choice, I have to substitute cross training for my quality workouts and long runs for now. Those are the ones that would cause the most problems.
