I agree that See at least thought about winning. Everyone else just rolled over and raced for 2nd place as soon as Emmanuel took over!

That was a pathetic race. Regardless of who "didn't" run, every single guy in that field was a sub-4 miler. And when Emmanuel "throws down" at 30 sec 200m after an 800m in 2:02 he drops the ENTIRE FIELD, including See.
Those boys need to go back and watch what Sullivan, Hood, McMullen, Hyde, Furusa did off a 2:02 800m in 1995...that's how to race a mile.

Jeez, lets not forget that this is a 3:37 guy racing guys who are about 3:41-3:42 guys right now.
I was actually impressed with AJ, who seems to be right around a 4 minute guy most of the time and had a pretty exhaustive first day for a true miler. He really didn't have a chance to win it but he put his nose up for 2nd early and hung in well all the way to the end with just a couple guys passing him. One of the best finishes I've seen AJ hold on to in a few years and with important points on the line.
And Lee does make the NCAA more competitive, but I'd be a little pissed that someone that old comes in and takes away your chances as a teenager or an early 20's guy to win an NCAA title. I bet if you had a guy like Lee taking titles in front of you, you might feel the same way. Can you imagine how nuts if would have been if Lagat entered college at the time he left? Nobody else would have won any race he was in, including in cross country but yet when he was in college goucher and meb and others beat him. There are very few guys who run competitively after college who don't get faster.
Why isn't there this much complaining with the BYU guys then? Because they're older than this EVERY YEAR. No matter what his age, he was simply better than everyone else.

Yes he is better, but you missed my point. If these guys are still training (especially in a team and facility enviroment like a D1 athlete) at age 25 THEY will be much faster too. One or two may not improve, but 90% will be faster as they get older. The BYU guys do get ripped when they are taking top spots.
Can you imagine how ripped Rupp would have gotten if he spent 2 years out of high school not in college and then entered as a 20 year old freshman? Absolutely everyone not at the UofO would have hated him. Is Rupp not getting faster? Did Lagat not get faster? Did Meb not? Abdi? Goucher? Lagat ran 3:26 a couple years out of college. Meb and Goucher were down from 13:30 to 13:10. Abdi was under 27:50.
People don't complain about Chelanga because (so we're told, though Josephat Kapkori of WSU was rumored to have admitted that he was in his 30's when he graduated so it's a little dicy with Kenyan "birth records") he's of normal collegiate age. If he turned out to be post collegiate age he would NOT be very celebrated.
Lee seems like a great guy and is a very good runner, but he's a literal man among boys.
just out of curiosity, ís there an age limit to compete in the NCAA?
...well when they start having an age-bracket race then I guess it will count. You don't see other countries with outstanding young runners saying, "hey, well I'm only 19 and my competition is older so I'm good for my age." If he's in college and running on a team under the guidelines provided then it's fair competition--do you think Kaki or Gregson would've been pulling the age card if they'd lost to him? Not likely. They just race who is up against them. There's juniors...and after that, age isn't so significant until you hit Masters.
25 years old? What is this guy doing still in college. Will he turn 26 during the outdoor season. At least the Kenyans who are that old, don't know their actual age and make up something. 25 and running against 18 and 19 year olds.....also, NOT IMPRESSED!
Alright, well if age is irrelevant and people should just race whomever they are up against then lets just combine the middle school and high school track and XC teams. I mean, those 12 year olds just need to race who they're up against and not make age excuses for losing to 18 year olds.
...hence the reason I said after juniors...which would be age 18. If you're going to be sarcastic it's important to pay attention first.
And actually it would actually be age 19 so they even have another year of competing against people "their own age"....even better!
bigshowm is one of the slowasses that always bitches around about any excuse he can, you remember those people? the ones who were "only doing a workout and thats why he lost" and "i'm training through," or here's another! "he's older than I am" LOL!!!
anyone??
I believe Chelenga is 24, and will turn 25 within the year. Meaning next year he will be the same age as Emmanuel is now, and yes he still has eligibility. McNeil is the same age.
As far as you think, Fernandez is the best runner ever in the NCAA meet.

You dislike Lee Emanuel? Do you even know him? Here is what I know about him from being around him. He is polite, well-mannered, respectful of his coach, loves his university, is appreciative of the chance he has been given to attend an American University, thinks about his teammates, and is always humble. Yes, he just turned 25 which makes him the oldest in the race. He is trying to be the best that he can. Should he apologize for that? Under the NCAA regulations he is eligible and can represent his university. So what has he done wrong to make you angry? I wish every 18 year old spoiled ass athlete would turn out to be a great role model like Lee. If you don't like the NCAA mandates age requirement.....then write to the NCAA and demand change. Coach Franklin operates within the NCAA rules and is no different than Liberty, Arkansas, Alabama, ____________ (you fill in the name) of teams that have older athletes on their rosters. A good rule to follow in your life......if you are going to dislike someone at least get to know them.
70% of the UK all-time top 200 1500m runners are 24 years of age or younger. 87% are 25 or younger. Why do you assume Emmanuel is the one with the advantage?
Thanks, Coach Franklin!
Let's hope Lee gets to represent GB in the Europeans or England in the Commonwealths this Summer. The former is not going to be easy with Baddeley, Lancashire and Brewer seemingly being locks for the team.
LeeLover 12: I am not Coach Franklin but know both.
