Wow reading this thread brings back so many good memories. I think its pretty obvious who ended up having more talent.

Ritz got more out of his talent, but German always had more natural talent. The double he did at state in high school, the 3:55 indoors as a freshman (and outdoor champ), and the 13:25 say it all. Oh, and he was a year younger than his class. He just couldn't stay healthy. Ritz was better, but German was more talented.

I would argue that part of talent is being able to handle the workload without injury. That along with natural speed, aerobic ability, and how your body improves with training is all part of talent in my mind. In that sense, I think Ritz had more talent.
But I agree with you that if German had been able to avoid injury, he probably would have ended up better than Ritz. His career ended in repeated injury when it was still very much on the upswing. It wasn't like he reached a point and was barely improving, he was still making rapid improvements when he was last in top shape.

I have shared a locker room with both of them at the nike HQ and i can tell you that they are both equally talented, but in very different ways. How do i say this without being too direct...ill go with wideness vs length. both very impressive, both very much left me wanting to experience more, both I'm sure have received this type of praise before.
