coaching questions. What should athletes do between events during a track meet when they are running multiple events ? My high school kids sometimes double 1600/3200 or 1600/800, sometimes even a 4 x 800 leg thrown in with one or two other events.
My question is what to do in between events. I have normally had them run 5-10 minute cooldown then a 10-12 minute warm up before the second event along with a few striders (much like the warm up before the first event.) Does an athletes running experience play into it??
I have seen kids lay with legs straight up in air against a wall for 5 minutes after an event, I had kids do this and they kind of enjoyed it. Does this make sense?? Is it scientifically sound or just mental?? and if it is a good idea when??immediately after the race?? after a short cooldown??
Any help would be appreciated.
