As far as I know, two out of seven of us tried at D1 (the top two). One was pretty much injured the whole time and otherwise lost interest as he had been swimming/running competitively from the time he was a boy, and I attempted to but struggled with anemia the whole time, plus I took academics more seriously. There may have been one other kid who ran at the club level at a small private college. We had won state in cross by the way in our classification.

You were from those epic teams from deerfield weren't you?

I know most of you are talking about your top 7. The NCAA has put out actual statistics and they say approximately 5% of ALL seniors who competed went on to compete for a full season their freshman year in college.
The whole thread could be summed up by one number:
5%
Wow. You only count as a college runner if you are in the NCAA?
What about NAIA, NJCAA and other collegiate organizations?
I ran HS XC my junior and senior year, and of those two years, 11 runners went to D1 schools and ran. Only one dropped off their team after their soph year. While I was in HS running, those 4 years produced 29 D1 runners, and 3 D3 All Americans in the field. CBA NJ. It was just assumed we would continue running after HS, and most did. Track & XC aren't college application-filler sports to us.
That pisses me off when kids join activities/sports/XC/Track/whatever solely for their college application filler, only to COMPLETELY QUIT for good as soon as they are accepted fall of senior year to their dream college/university.
These kids are usually the biggest douche bags on your XC Team senior year, and once they get an acceptance to attend one of the most highly selective colleges in the US, they say adios to your team mid-fall of the XC season.
I say if this is you and the reason you ran, you are a fkin tool.
#1 D3 for a season then quit
#2 made D1 as a walk on junior year in college
#3 no
#4 D3 for 2 seasons
#5 no
#6 no

Long ago, we had an average HS team and won NYS Section 6 my senior year; the top 7 ran in after HS as follows:
1.) D1 on scholarship for 3 years
2.) D3 4 years
3.) Ivy League D1 - ran 1 year
4.) D1 4 years - made NCAA xc twice
5.) Ivy League D1 - ran 4 years
6.) Attended Ivy, but did not run
7.) D3 4 years
4 of 7 ran D1. The rest I believe did not run a step in competition after high school.
From the top 7 my senior year, that is. Prior to that, we had one or two runners each year who went on to run in college, on scholarship. Many from our track team (state runners-up my junior year) went to college on scholarship from each graduating class.

I graduated in 2000, and in the 4 years I attended high school, I am the only runner too attend college and run for the university. We had more players from the football team make it too the NFL my 4 years in school than we had people go too school too run...sad:(
So much for the D3 academic reputation.

If you add pretty much them all up and compare college participation to HS XC participation - it comes out to be about 10% give or take a little depending on the year.
I forget the breakdown by gender,
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
