The OP is obviously a 16 year old high school kid that just saw "Without Limits" for the first time. Yes, its a good movie, but I I'm sorry, Steve Pre is NOT the guy to listen to on how to win a race ('72 olympics) and "guts" talk only springs from young kids who just saw the movie. One of the most important guages in how good of a runner you are is how you can compete against competition. If you suck at races, you are not that good of a runner.
Personally, I always root against Chelanga cause I think people who run up front deserve to lose... I like when they help me run faster than them, but I love when I beat them for it (and obviously the Universe agrees or people who do it wouldn't tank). Its simple ---> Running up front is your fault and if you're sorry about losing when you do it then fix your PROBLEM. The least sportsman-like thing anyone can do is complain about losing when they run like an idiot.
Also, about the "its about the journey, not the destination" BS before... the journey is all the work they've done (which all of them have). This proves you're in high school because only high school kids think racing is the only aspect. This just in, RACES ARE WON BY THE TRAINING LEADING TO THEM... not so much in the 28-29 minutes that it takes to finish.
well if the gauge for who wins the race is who led the longest then yes he will win 3 in a row. However My Money is on Chris Derrik to finish ahead of him.
i might be wrong but i thought the rules to racing were simple. everyone lines up and the gun goes off, than who ever makes it to the finish line first wins. it doesnt matter how you get there because if you get there first than obviously you are the better man on that day. if you sit and kick or try to grind it out but still lose than the person that beat you is better than you. rupp ran his own race and it worked. sammy didnt have to go out so hard. he could have sat back and waited for a few K than really pushed. he instead ran from the gun while rupp sat back, conserving energy. once the catch was made it was all but over. maybe is sammy didnt throw in that surge when rupp caught him he would have had more for the finish. this is stupid to say someone who ran a bad race tactically actually won. rupp ran smart and sammy ran stupid, yet you want to reward him for that simply because he ran out front of the race the most? man if thats how you win races simply by getting the most face time by being up front and than actually not winning im gonna be a national champion in no time. now sammy could be a 3 time national champion from the 10K track last spring Cross this fall and 10K track this coming spring, thats realistic. also a 2 time cross champion is probable. but to say he should win over rupp is moronic at best. who ever wins is the best on that day...rupp won...which means he was better than sammy on that day. are you a disgruntled fan or are you actually an athlete. id like to say fan cause an athlete would know that rupp clearly won that race...unless your actually really slow and have never been in the front of a race let alone a sprint finish for the win. cause id be willing to bet if you were than again you would side with rupp...but from what i can see you just idolize people that run hard from the gun and automatically think they should win cause they have guts. its quite funny really, did you just get done watching "Pre" or something? wake up and smell the roses my friend. if you wanna run out from and be the carrot for everyone behind you than you better save something for the kick or youll lose...just like sammy did with rupp....just sayin
my bad for repeating much of what you posted. your points are very valid so i felt they needed to be put up again......QFE..
I ran a 5k not long ago. The pace was too slow, so I started pushing it really early. Just took off, ran really out of my head. I was in 1st until 200 to go and got passed by two dudes like I was standing still.
It was super frustrating and I feel for anyone who's had this happen; but it was my fault and no one elses and I make no excuses about it. I wasn't willing to sit and wait and run slow, and everyone else benifited from my lack of patience. Such is life, i guess.

You sir are an absolute tool. The winner is ALWAYS the person who crosses the line the first. It doesn't matter if you drafted or led, all that matters is you crossed the line first.
So Rosy Ruiz won Boston, right? F***ing idiot.

Rupp did not win. All Rupp did was draft off of Chalenga. Chalenga raced tough and did all the work. Chalenga was clearly the better runner that day and deserved the title.
actually if you were not such an effing retard you would remember that last year chalenga had a huge lead eary much like he did this year and rupp ran him down throughout the whole race. there wasnt much drafting and rupp ran a better race, showed he had more guts, and won because of it.
thank you this kid is ridiculous. there should be a requirement that you have to hit puberty before posting on these forums so you dont just believe all the nike slogan bullshit that floats by your head

He's the one who said ALWAYS so I consider that to be extreme. Think through things because it is very easy to come up with exceptions to the rule. F***ing idiot.

Yes, he meant that cheaters who cut the course count too. F***ing idiot.
To those who say Rupp is a better runner because he beat Chelanga, let me ask you this.
Doesn't Chelanga hold the NCAA 10k record?
Doesn't Chelanga have a better personal best than Rupp?
The answer to both of those questions is yes.
Rupp knows he is an inferior runner to Chelanga over the 10k which is why he drafted. It doesn't matter whether he drafted for a little or a lot the fact is he drafted and when asked to take the lead he gave Chelanga a bump. Very unclassy.

Are you on crack? Indoor AR race, Indoor NCAAs (5000m, DMR, 3000m), Outdoor NCAAs (10000m, 5000m), watch those races before you post here again.
Chelanga had a bad day.
He destroyed Rupp's course record at NCAA xc.
to answer the OP, no
Chelanga was the first athlete over the line who was NOT on a shoe company payroll. So he is the 2x amateur winner.

If that's the case, he's had multiple bad days from the number of times Rupp has beat him.

I'm sorry, who has a better personal best at the 10k
Rupp or Chelanga?
No OP this is a dumb question, Sammy C can not do it because its impossible
