She was very good as God in "Dogma."
She must now be the fastest Canadian Grammy-winning trial marathoner of all-time.

Good for her. That's a decent time for an artist/entertainer. I saw her open up for another band once and she was great. Very attractive in person.
So, just to be clear, you would all similarly congratulate a housewife for running in 6 hours, because after all, thats a decent time for a housewife, right?
What if she ran 5:47 and was decent at karaoke?
It's Alanis Morrisette for Christ's Sake. What are we, high school girls in 1997.Good Lord

It is very cool. Sounds like a solid effort for her first one out and seems like she trained well for it. Good for her!
I don't understand the need for snarky comments here other than some occasional puns or references to her lyrics.
are you for real?what a crazy old whacko.

4:17 is a good first marathon for anyone who isn't (or is just turning into) a regular runner.
What's with this thread. 9 something pace is pretty good. You couldn't tell it by looking at her.
Good for her. Sometimes it is not about time but having fun running. How may great runner can sing like her. Karaoke does not count.
You people are ridiculous.
An attractive public figure modestly takes a low-key shot at what is to most of the world a pretty challenging goal, does just fine (a 4:1x marathon for a female her age is pretty solid for a recreational runner), and *running enthusiasts* have nothing but negativity to spew about it?
And you wonder why the rest of the world doesn't give a damn about this sport.
I'd rather meet 4h marathoner who respects everyone from 2:03-5:03 than some guy peaking out at 2:3x (and I have a hunch I'm giving way too much credit there) who, ironically, doesn't respect anyone over 2:20.
Thank you. Why the negativity? During the running boom everyone respected everyone. I remember an elite runner making a comment about how difficult it would be to run a 4 hour marathon because you're on your feet for a long time, pounding away.
It's just a matter of respect. Why do people have to bash others?
Lucy, Let me be the first to give you a heart felt thank you for participating in our sport. I for one feel that we need all the hot Canadian babes that we can get in running.Same goes to Alanis...although I must admit that the Jagged Little Pill album still creeps me out a bit.

but the question is - 'did she do that on television'?

Running a 4:17 marathon is not running, is that what you are saying?
He was replying to a post about being sick of waiting for a taxi. "Runs" was a pun on the word "sick" because getting sick sometimes involves getting the runs.

You people are ridiculous. If this had been any normal person running 4:17 you would be tearing them apart because it is about running it fast, not just finishing. If she has a 26.2 sticker on her car you would be calling her an idiot who thinks running a marathon at all is some sort of accomplishment.
But NO, since its Alanis Morrisette(?) you think its some kind of great thing that she ran slowly.
ALANIS MORRISETTE!!! What is wrong with you people?
Dude, mellow out....
For many people finishing a marathon is an accomplishment. Who cares if some one runs a marathon then puts a sticker on their car. Try to have a little respect for other people and your life will be much happier.
Good for her. She likes to run.
If a NBA basketball player sang at a karoke bar, would singers/performance artists get all excited about it on a message for performance artists?
Or if she played in a local baseball league, would baseball fans get excited about it?

Nicely put. My only quibble would be that a marathon, to most of the world, is a VERY challenging goal. The ironic thing is that if someone like Bill Rogers, Paul Tergat or Geb were told of Morrisette's story, they'd have nothing but good things to say about her. To paraphrase Bill Rogers, When was the last time any of the nay-sayers completed a 4 hour run? Of course most would, could should. . . but haven't. Good for her for, not only completing the race, but for doing so without all of the fanfare which seems to accomany most celebrities doing. . . well, anything.
Who the hell is Alanis Morrisette?
Can you really call a 417 marathon 'running'?
While I won't scoff at her 1st marathon time, I will say I can't believe no LRers haven't slammed her statement about doing her 1/4 mile repeats ON A TREADMILL. Really? Is it because she's a pop star and can't have anonymity on a track somewhere?
