I coach one of the other competitors- my kid PRed in the "5k" by 25 seconds, and ran well below his current mile PR pace for the "2.5k". I have much reason to believe the course is short based on this kids fitness alone.
I posted on a recent thread that my only triathlon experience, as a relay runner, was on a short course, at the Westchester Tri 2007. I should note that for 2008 and 2009 (I complained about it but don't know whether that mattered) the course was lengthened significantly and now is at least a full 10K (vs. 5.95 miles before). The times suggest that it might be a tiny bit long.
The point of racing is to beat the other athletes to the finish line. Thats it... times dont matter and never will, all that matters is beating the other people to the line.
According to this story http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-30-prep-verzbicas-duathlonsep30,0,2970190.story Lukas was sick for this ITU World Duathaolon victory. Should be an interesting Fall HS cross country season for him. I look forward to following.
Lukas Verzbicas is only 16 years old. he is going to be a junior this year. he broke the national 5k indoor record as a freshman.
Chill peeps, there was a lot of downhill on the 2.5k section. He is still really fast.

He's going to be a Senior this year, he took extra classes since he didn't think it would be fair to be a year older than everyone.
Didn't LV do the San Diego ITU short course event? I read he was suppose to compete at the San Diego course.

Zombie thread dude...
Don't give him any props for dropping out of the tough distance running sport to take up a sport that is dominated by wealthy first world countries. He's scared of racing the best. He's a wimp compared to guys like Cam Levins. He's avoiding the African continent. No respect for this crap.
Who cares....
Good luck to Lukas the finest athlete of our generation.
This thread is almost 3 years old.
Verzbicas, still technically a high schooler, did go sub 4 in a terribly paced race. The pacer did hit 800 in 2:02, but :57.5 and :64.6? WTF? The commentor didn't know what he was talking about.
Well the third lap is the key lap go too fast...you ain't gonna break four...settle into a comfortable pace and hit it in the last 300/200 you may break four. But did LV do the San Diego race or did he wimp out? I heard the course was primo and the conditions were perfect.
He does not appear in the 2012 results.
LV was not on the starting line in SD yesterday.
He didn't have enough ITU points to get into the race. He petitioned but was denied.
He has not completed a race in more than half a year! Puusssy!
Lukas has to complete his courses at school now. He can't sluff off like the former place he was at.
