He is my faceook friend, how cool is that?
He's actually Ukrainian. Eddie Hart would have beaten him in the 100 in Munich if not for that screw-up about the schedule.
Part of the reason is that Borzov, alone, didn't train in the Soviet system. Petrovsky, his coach, had different methods.
not suitable for sprinting

Satch's post said "USSR/Russia."
And don't forget Borzov dominated the 200 in a fabulous and easy 20 flat. He also got a 3rd in the 100 4 years later. He was the real McCoy.
Only Borzov get the good steroids.

If it was only drugs, the USSR would have had a dozen Borzovs.
Eddie Hart would not have beaten Borzov. Borzov was actually the prohibitive favorite before the Games. He had been beating the hell out of the Americans for a couple of seasons. Hart was very inconsistent and as Vince Matthews, the Gold medalist in the 400 in '72 pointed out, Hart was another of those sprinters who had to have his ass kissed and be spoon fed everything. Other athletes checked schedules daily in case there were changes, etc. But not our 100 meter guys. The attitude is much the same today for many US sprinters. Worse in fact.

The Russians, including Borzov, looked like a fair Div 1 Team against the American team in the 4x100 relay at Munchen.
Fitness equipment companies have sold a lot of
glute/ham machines.
The first time I saw one advertised, late seventies,
the marketer claimed that that was the key to Borzov's
amazing hamstring strength.
Just going from memory here, but having talked to several of those guys a few years ago, I think Korchemny worked with Borzov on extensive plyometrics long before anybody else was.
I've heard that too, ray.
Some writers claimed that Borzov had
hamstring to quadriceps strength in a
1.1 or 1.2 to 1 ratio. The average guy
probably has a .5 to 1 ratio for whatever
that is worth.
I don't think that I ever heard the term
plyometrics before the mid seventies, so
maybe the story or fact that Borzov did them
was the big reason everyone started talking
about them then.
Satch mentions that Borzov was the big favorite in the 100. He is absolutely correct. I just pulled out my 8/72 Track & Field News Pre-Olympic issue. 4 out of the 6 official T&FN prognosticators picked him to win, the other 2 picked him 2nd, with Hart 1st.
In the 200, He was just the consensus FIFTH pick... yet he blasted the whole field.
What does that tell you about what he would have done even if Hart (and Robinson) had had any brains and showed up for their heats ?! He still wins. And 4 years later, past his prime now, he still gets 3rd in the 100 and beats all US guys.
No asterisk needed by Borzov's name.
the answer to my question is easy- no brothers no sprinters - Borzov was a genetic freak, the CAUCASIAN BOLT.

Oh, you really have to stop making this stuff up.
We've all been informed that such things can't happen because Hart and Robinson were black, and Borzov didn't have any African genes. Training load and work ethic don't matter.
He knows how to pick a good wife.
Borzov was a lucky guy - I once got to see him run close up - USA V USSR duel meet- would like to read his biography but its in Russian / UKRANIAN -" SO YOU WANT TO BE A 10 SECOND SPRINTER"
Half Brit. Ovett's Lovechild.
