Congrats to Rowbury and all, but in reality she finished fourth in the final and more than likely would have been fifth if not for Burka's fall. So congrats to JC on getting her into fifth place shape, pure genius.
Actually in reality she is holding a bronze medal. Even if she were fifth, finishing fifth in a WC event is quite an achievement despite the letsrun bashing that 'perspective' accurately derided.
One will never know how their race would have played out without the incident.
The amount of IAAF Outdoor WC and Olympics medals that LAUSD products, Bobby Kersee and John Smith have won, swamp any other coach in T&F history.
Agree, taking 5th at Worlds would be a great accomplishment.
But she took 3rd. With 200M to go the second half of the race is just starting. Who knows how it would end. But we do know she ran a really smart race to be in the hunt in the end, which shows some great instinct and experince for future battles.

From what I can tell, Cook is great with the x's and o's of training and teaching the sport, but rubs some people the wrong way. We've all met people like that. People who are good at what they do, but their personality makes it hard to be around them.
Thank goodness I'm easy to get along with.
Before the incident, Shannon was in a great positon to medal without the fall, she was in the best postion to pass after the turn, she gaining on the front runners pretty easy, but her momentum was disruptive twice, once during the fall and again when Jamal cut her off right after the fall. All in all no ones knows.....all I know is Shannon was right there with 100 to go and John Cook help but her there...props to him!

We in the U.S. of A. are not greedy as we settled on the bronze.
Our preparations are in the works for next Olympics where four or more will be disqualified and we will be winners again!
Congrats Rowbury! As for all of the posters who want to make an issue about the athletes who have left Cook--I'm afraid you don't get it.
What about Cook's training? Any specifics? What philosophy or core model does he use. What big ideas inform the training and his coaching?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
