I love Legat, too. Great person, great runner. Nice to see him try and chase down Bekele.
And major props to Bekele, the greatest distance runner in the history of the world.

YES, THANK YOU MR. LAGAT! Your performance and interview comments at the Berlin World Championships were the BEST! They reflected a fine character. I sincerely wish you and yours the very best!
"agreed. the only person with the balls to take on Bekele"
No, it if had balls, he would have tried to make it a sub 13minute race and run the kick out of Bekele. But no, he didn't have the balls, so while we like him, he wasn't balls to the walls in order to get a win.
so what you're saying is that the 326 1500m runner should've tried to take the lead and make the race fast against the World Record holder, instead of sit and kick?.. good plan genius
Lagat tested positive - he is not clean.
He is a great guy - and he's running against other doped athletes, in that sense the playing field is legal.
People on here are startling naive.
I bet you all think all of Hermens' guys went from good to unbeatable through hard work? Why don't you type his name into google and read a bit...

Love Lagat!!
As another said - he's a true natural. He has the best mind-set among all US runners. Passionate yet relaxed. Dedicated yet balanced. I admire that. I identify more with the runners that struggle with the mental aspect. but am inspired by BL.
thought Bernard was going to beat BEKELE to tape, was my favorite race in the meet.
Finally, an American proves that we can race with the Africans!

Lagat's wife is Canadian. He could have jumped through the hoops to become Canadian (as would the vast majority of immigrants given a similar choice: US or Canada?)
He chose the US, and he makes a big point of emphasizing he is a *US* citizen, and a supporter of his teammates etc. Lagat is a classic US immigrant, because he meets the main criteria to be a US citizen - you have to WANT to be American.
Lagat is a class guy, a great sportsman and clean. He trains smart and has a great work ethic. He's lived half his life in the US and represents the country very well. Hope he can continue to run competitively for some time.
Please ask yourself, "Why did Lagat become an American?" I do not think it is because he can be the best American rather then a run-of-the-mill Kenyan, because he has proven the last few years that he would have still been one of the top Kenyans in the 1,500 and 5,000.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
