I think that when it comes to 200 speed, I am about average. I have no good numerical data to support this. Here's why I think I'm a good example, though. After focusing on the marathon during my early twenties, I spent my twenty sixth year trying to improve my 1500 and 5k times. I did a lot of short fast stuff - 50's 100's 400's. I got my 800 PR down to around 2:03, but I never, never broke 27 for 200. And I tried. Maybe I'm much slower than average, and maybe different training could have gotten me down to 26, but I don't think so. To whomever said that 26 isn't fast - I disagree. While I know that 2 minutes sucks (for those on this board, all of whom seemingly ran 1:52 or better) I don't believe that the average person can run as fast as I did for 800, no matter how hard they trained.
