What is the Leadville 100?
What is the Leadville 100?
You are.
A 100-mile out & back trail race with a start/finish in Leadville, CO. It's the 2nd biggest 100-miler in the US, after Western States. Most of the race is run above 10,000 feet elevation.

I enjoyed following this year's race and reading Antone's post-race blog. Will the Hardrock 100 ever get the prestige that Leadville gets? As I understand, it's quite a bit more challenging?
Tim Parr (2009 Leadville 100 Mile Trail Run Champ), by the way, as mentioned prior is a multiple All American in XC and track from Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison, CO. He's sponsored by SportHill, works 40 plus hours per week, is going to school for another major (History; already has an Exercise and Sport Science degree from Western), trains well over 100+ miles per week, has about a 14:18 5k PR, 29:58 10k PR, 2:25 marathon PR at Twin Cities a few years ago, and just made his 3rd World Mountain running team (endorsed by USATF). A week before this year's Leadville 100 Mile Trail race, he won the Pikes Peak ascent (13.3 mi with about 7800 ft. of ascent up to over 14,000 ft) by over 7-minutes (winning $1000.00) and throughout this year won many races and set course records. Running ultras is NOT hiking nor is it a "circus." Quite simply it's probably the purest form of HARD running anyone will ever encounter...period! Tim simply turned to ultras because he enjoys and is passionate about running, the key ingredient to any great athlete, no matter what their times, race distance, etc (just ask Coach Joe Vigil). Lastly, if Tim wanted to or was so inclined he could probably run a sub 2:20 marathon or even challenge the American Record for 50k.
I heard Duncan Callahan won, and Zeke Tiernan finished second... Duncan has won this race before, and Zeke has finished second... I was reading through some of this thread, and can't believe some of the bashing that goes on. Zeke was an All American 10K guy at CU, running with the likes of Goucher, Wells, Severy, et al.
Looks like Krupicka was ill again. Any more details?
YIANNIS KOUROS ran 100miles in 11:46:37 which is about 7:04 pace.
7:04 pace in a 22 minute 5k, does that make him less of a runner for have a slower 5k time?
being sub 15 and sub 30 is basically a 15 hour guy rather than a 12 hour guy in a 100 mile race.
I heard AK was hit by an ATV on the course this year while ahead of CR pace, and had to drop out.
