Lately I'm starting to feel that periodized training isn't for me. I was thinking about starting a year round cycle in which I run moderate mileage (around 70 MPW) rather than 80-90 MPW in the preseason and 50-60 MPW during the racing season, and alternate one untempo workout, one longer interval workout (1k or 1 mile reps @ 5k-10k pace), one shorter rep workout (200m-800m reps @ 1500m-3k pace), and one hill workout (10 * 1 min uphill) on a two week cycle. I was also thinking about cutting my long run back from 17-20 miles to 13-6 because I generally race distances between 1500m and 10k and the longer runs probably do more to tire me out for workouts than to help me. Anyway, I would appreciate any suggestions. Does anyone do something like this now?
