Logic? What the hell does the GDP of the USA have anything to do with 100 meter running and making money for the IAAF. Athletics globally is as popular as it has been since Coe/Ovett in the late 70's early 80's and it is because of Usain Bolt.
America is not where the money in athletics is - it is Europe you moron. How many professional meets are there in the US vs Europe? How many Golden League or IAAF GP meets are there in the US vs Europe? Do you not follow the sport? Did you not hear about the 25'000 people that went to a European track meet (Ostrava) essentially just to see Bolt run and the 10'000 others that were reportedly queuing to get in to see the guy? Did you not hear about the plethora of reporters in Paris for his press conference - the most they had ever seen for an athlete in the history of the meet.
Usain Bolt makes news EVERYWHERE in the world - and his public persona is that he is a far more charismatic and likeable guy than arguably the most popular and well-known track athlete to come from the US - Carl Lewis, who was an absolute dick.
Gatlin was certainly expendable. Powell was right there at the same freaking level. Powell's habits off track? I wouldn't have any idea - but I did watch the IAAF funded documentary by a German TV show that went to Jamaica and filmed Asafa singing in his church choir, handing out scones after the service and playing beach cricket. If thats the real Asafa Powell who really knows - but THATS what the public get to see. What did the public know about Gatlin? That he was busted in college for taking steroids. It doesn't matter if in reality Gatlin was a far better guy than Powell - it's all about public perception.
Of course Jones and her crew were ahead of the curve, but do you really think no one in the sports governing bodies knew anything? For the six or so years she was at the top? Nothing? After reading your remedial crap I can see you are not the sharpest knife in the drawer but are you really so ignorant? What just like the USATF or the USOC knew nothing about Carl Lewis failing multiple (three) drug tests before 88 Olympics?
Everything in life is about incentives. Pure economics is about incentives. What incentive was there to catch Jones - the biggest drawcard in womans athletics? What incentive was there for Le Tour to out Armstrong? Have you not read the books about Lance? Go read them and then come tell me they knew nothing about what was going on (provided you can actually read and comprehend). Athletics is in constant competition for sponsorship dollars, TV rights etc and to get these they need publicity.
Usain Bolt GETS publicity - as explained earlier maybe the most by any single athlete in the history of the sport. Even if it was him that got done - he is too important now to ever be touched.
