If tofu is so good, why must you mimic what's done with meat? BBQ'ing meat isn't mimicking BBQ'ing tofu, it's the other way around. If God didn't want me to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

That's right. Besides he probably wears sandles and sucks a long stiffy from time to time.
Because I like BBQ sauce. Also, I am a happily-married heterosexual male who wears sandles quite often. You seem like an immature homophobe (don't be proud of that!).

there have been several scientific studies conducted that concluded that vegetarians have higher Intelligence Quotients than meat eaters. as these findings have been somewhat controversial, i'd like to thank you for being a prime case study in the support of the scientist's conclusions.

it's a no-lose scenario... you eat healthier, spend less money, support your local economy, and make a huge difference on your environmental footprint.
Actually I find that the food at local farmers markets is more expensive.

it can be, sometimes... although my "lifestyle suggestion" also included driving less, which would definitely save money... that could easily offset the cost of spending a little more on food and then some. i don't mind paying a little extra for pesticide-free, organic produce grown locally. if anything, it might save on some exponentially higher medical bills down the road, eh? good food is definitely an investment, imho.

Same problem as the French Red Wine study. Vegetarians (at least in the US and Europe) are much more likely to come from privileged backgrounds and higher socioeconomic classes, both of which are much, much more correlated with intelligence than are eating habits.
You're posting tripe, trying to make yourself feel better about your choice to be a vegetarian by telling people that you're smarter than the average dupe. Well, sorry to hand it to you slick, but you're probably just as average as most of the people on the board.
One thing I don't get about you veggies- why do you have to be so forceful with your choice? I work with several vegetariant, my sister is one, and they never try to make me "see the light". Why can't you do the same? Respect my arbitrary choice to eat and I'll respect your arbitrary choice to abstain. Simple as that. Don't come on here trying to pump yourself up with nonsense that vegetarians are smarter. Einstein was not a vegetarian. Neither was Newton, Fermi, Tesla, Copernicus, Galileo, Darwin, Magellan, Archimedes, and on and on and on...
stop right there. it's bs like that that discredits the vegan. you shout at the top of your lungs how much you like food that is disgusting. there is a lot of good food that has no meat or fish in it (maybe not that much that lacks all animal products), so you don't need to go to the tofu and the like. You can eat great with pasta, tacos, and chili, among other things, without any meat. But you have to have the cheese, the eggs, and the sour cream.
You've all forgotten that ALL modern farming produces greenhouse gasses. Tractors burn fuel, and manure is a common fertilizer. That's why I keep it old school as a hunter/gatherer. I even reuse my spears!
My IQ is 129. After eating meat it is 129. After eating tofu it is 129. Some have higher IQ's and some have lower IQ's. You're welcome to make fun of my IQ anytime you wish. Just don't tell me not to have meat when I want it, as I won't infringe on your right not to have meat. Just don't piss down my leg and tell me its raining (meat eaters are the leading cause of man-made global warming!)
This news doesn't surprise me much. As an environmental consultant, I often tell people that if you want to conserve water and other natural resources, and reduce the production of greenhouse gases, the best thing you can do is become a vegetarian. I love meat and don't plan on giving it up anytime soon.
There are quite a few vegetarians in the world, and most of us will never try to make you "see the light". But if only a few people are forceful, of course those are the ones you're going to notice. Just like with anything, of course there are annoying people-- and those are the ones you're going to notice.
I posted these links simply to bring this to people's attention. There is a lot of focus on regulating emissions from the transportation industry, and very little attention is paid to the largest greenhouse gas emitters - meat factory farms.
I also don't think many folks realize the variety, and great taste, of meat substitutes out in the market currently. It really is easier than ever to reduce your meat consumption, if that is something you wish to do.
COOL! I will remember that when I drive to get the burgers for this weekend's cookout!
Good for you, how cute. Saving the environment for the rest of us. Go hemp!
Meat production and consumption is a conundrum at best; a dilemma/ debacle at worst.
Personally I make part of my living off raising Angus beef. We do it on pasture, with no grain inputs, or chemical fertilizers. This may lessen the footprint our cattle leave, but certainly does not eliminate it.
The option of grain farming in our region just doesn't fly; unless you're ready to grab every farm program handout available.
I tried going vegan, but after a couple months my get up a go was nearly gone.(Probably didn't know enough of what the right stuff to eat was) So I reverted to the occassional steak and burger. Or even better, liver and onions, to keep the fires stoked.
Until a better use is found for our small scattered patches of grass, we'll keep cattle on them.
For grain farming to be fully effective in feeding the world's masses, there's a myriad of socio/political/economic boundary's to move. I only can speculate as to where to start. Ship grain instead of arms.

I also don't think many people give a flying f u c k in hell about "meat substitutes". I and the Mrs. will be dining on grilled pork tonight.

uh.... that you didn't realize i was speaking hyperbolically in response to your "if god didn't want us to eat animals..." comment, is perhaps confirmation once again. really.... if you're gonna make those kinds of jokes, at least be original. what's next? People Eating Tasty Animals? *yawn*....
I can tell the idiot who started this thread is just reiterating the nonsence they found off the internet that fits what they belive. If they actually did some research they'd know that
!!!!!THERE ARE LESS COWS NOW THAN THERE WERE 75 YEARS AGO!!!!
Better genetics have improved the milking capacity and meat capacity of cattle around today!
But all you idiot hippy-liberals wouldn't know that because you just read books and don't get any real world experience. Just go live in your bubble. If any of you grew up on a farm you would be more appreciative of where your food came from and the cheap price you get it for.
There are also far more trees in the US than there were at its founding. ( Explaining this to the intellectually superior and smug vegan bootsie may upset her though. She may need a vegemite sandwich or something to calm down.) Just kidding Bootsie, all in fun. Somewhere there is a group of aliens giggling to themselves that we are celebrating landing on the moon and worrying about our carbon footprints at the same time.
