This Adidas meet production is absolutley embarrassing. They can't string 2 sentences together without screwing up. They show the Jen S. pole vault replays and interview when they finally have a live race going on. They screw up names (Lukezic v. Brannen). They openly guess at other names when they can't see their bibs, and are typically wrong. They don't explain what happened to athletes in races (Manzano), or after they cut away (the women's 5000, what happened to Kosgei?). At one point they were cutting to commercial, and Lewis Johnson forgot the name of the meet, and then just mumbled out, "be right back everybody." Complete nightmare.
Absolutely Embarrassing Adidas Coverage

So in other words, same as it ever was, same as it ever was....

I tuned in and watched the men's and women's 100 meter races, which took something like 20 minutes to show - maybe more. It seemed that a false start was the key thing to focus on.
Anyways, the camera work on the men's 1500 and 400 was good. Lagat looked so smooth, as did Wariner. Merrit also looked great.
Is Larry Wade (banned for drugs) coaching Jeter? -
Dwight also called Lagat, Kip Lagat during the race and did not notice that the other announcers kept correcting him. He then called him Kip again to begin the post race interview. You would think they should know the name of a 1500/5000 world champ...
-
his name is Bernard Kipchirchir Lagat
-
lagats boys call him kip
-
Kip is apparently a nickname of his. And you call yourself a track fan.
-
Everyone who knows Bernard Lagat well enough calls him Kip. I know him a bit but not enough so thus far, I can only call him Ki_
-
I heard Kip is Lagat's nickname.
-
You see, the coverage even makes some people so confused they can't even rememebr that Lagat's nickname has always been Kip, so they just doubt everything that comes out of these guys mouths. I saw the other Olympic announcers covering the Preakness today, so at least they have to juggle different sports. These jokers, Johnson and Rawson, just have to prep for the same track names they have been covering for years, and still mess it up every time.

In kalenjin families and within the community, boys are usually addressed by the middle name which in most cases starts with Kip.So Lagat for instance is addressed by his family members and friends as Kipchirchir. It is only people who are not very familiar/close to a person that address him with his first name or Last name.
Kip is the shortening of a Kip(whatever e.g Kipkoech,Kipkorir,Kipkirui,Kiptolo,Kipsiele etc).......Any kalenjin guy with a middle name that starting with kip can be simply reffered to as Kip. I know of a medic called Dr. Kipyegon who insists that people call him Dr.Kip( he says it sounds more affectionate).
Kalenjin guys love being called by middle names ,therefore Lagat would not mind at all if you call him Kip or Kipchirchir. -
Did anyone else notice how the flowers and powerade were being pushed on runners as soon as they finished? What kind of sponsor does that sh!t?
Also, coverage of the women's 1500 sucked. Yes, we know Hasay is an HSer. And we know her hair puts the "tail" in ponytail. Now please show us the other runners. -
haha i did notice that! wariner barely crossed the finish after his race and they were pushing flowers into his hands i was like wtf!!! he threw them in the stands haha
-
The winner almost always throws the flowers in the stands. I don't think it was a gesture of anger.

Wariner announced he's going back to Clyde Hart, so I think he was tossing the flowers to him. -
when rupp won his race back when he didnt throw his in the stands and i dont think pre would ever have done that when he won a race....so nope your wrong

the announcing AT the meet was pretty poor as well. while the distance races were unfolding, they would only announce the leader. my favorite was in the 5k, when the top two dudes were clearly taking turns leading every 400, and the announcer says "wow! there has been 5 lead changes in 5 laps! how exciting!" cmon man, really?
also, the sprint races would bark out the top 1, maybe top 2, but no sense of the entire race. for example, i had no idea where x-man was in the 200, and didnt know he got 2nd until the screen showed it 2 min later. cmon! hs invites are announced better... -
I thought the coverage was Excellent!
-
add in the part where they flashed on the screen that felix sanchez and nate brannen were USA athletes... Sanchez is Dominican and Brannen is Canadian right?
-
When it's not live they can do a voice over and make it sound like they really know what they are talking about.
When it's live it take many spotters to fill in the announcer on what is happening.
Adidas was live, and an absolutely stellar meet the way it was broadcast and the way they stacked the field with Oly/WC medalists.
Adidas was the first and the last great meet of the year for the U.S.A. The rest of the U.S. TV T&F meets are downhill from here.
