there are 29 men who meet the criteria set forth by USATF(including Cabada and Gabrielson who are on the team)
Now if you go in order of time and forget depth of performances, conditions or timing. the first 5 are highly unlikely to run. Hall had a bad experience bouncing back on short notice and is unlikely to give up another quarter million plus to where the team usa jersey and run a slow time. Meb and ritz want into worlds but they'll focus on the 10k and take an appearance fee in the fall. Also better long term planning for ritz, short breaks between marathons tends to shorten careers.
Sell would except in normal circumstances but after boston he sounded like a man who needs a break from the long race.
K.K. is rumored to be 20lbs over racing wieght and unlikely to cram training and give up what would have to be one of his last pay days.
If Lehmkuhle is healthy he'll likely go. Browne if asked will go, young if asked will go. That would give us a team with four sub 2:14 marathoners. Maybe the fastests we've ever sent based on PR's.
Abdi is next, he'll refuse based on being as good a 10k runner as a marathoner and wanting to chase that medal instead.
Rohatinsky- don't know if he'll go most likely wants to focus on the 10k but he may look at the 10k field at usa's and think one in the hand is better then two in field.
Jenkins- if healthy will go, but he hasn't been since the trials though he seemed to be running better this winter but no spring marathon isn't a good sign
Hartmann- coming off a long layoff but may be willing to give it a go. Similar to jenkins except he is solid 10k runner and he may want to focus on that before getting back to the long race.
Downin- has run a handful of solid marathons including a under the radar 2:15 in dallas last year, good speed, international experience
If they are reaching deeper then this then I imagine times will get thrown out the window. They may go for Mike Morgan who has worlds experience. he is actually a perfect example of why people don't run worlds. He ran great there, but killer heat mad his time slow. A field with 20 sub 2:08 marathoners made is place seem low. So he ran perhaps the best race of his career and it was treated like a failure. But he was third at Twin cities last year and ran well at the trials as well. The others who may be up for nod, would probably be Ed Torress, 4th at twin cities good speed over 10k has run well internationally. Arciniaga who was top 10 at boston and that carries weight. Or Rizzo who ran well at Boston which shows good current fitness.
