just one of the questions answered by hall,
very intresting that he thinks he is 9mins quicker than OG Marathon. lets all hope!!
Q.You ran well in the Beijing Olympics, but of course many, again, had very high expectations of you. Afterward, you didn't make excuses, but you said you never felt quite right in the race or your training. April marathons have been good to you the last two years. Do things feel different than pre-Beijing? How so?
RH : Oh yeah, I feel night and day different. Just to give you an idea. I am doing eight-mile tempo runs on the same course as before Beijing but running 3:00 faster...three times three is nine, nine minus 2:12 is...well you get the picture...all I am saying is that my fitness is in a totally different place. I remember doing runs before Beijing and feeling like I was trying so hard but my body was just plateaued. Looking back on it, I think I never let my body totally recover from London so I never made the physical gains that I needed to. I am just excited to race again, which is even more important than the workouts. Before Beijing I was concerned but trying to stay optimistic and hoping for a miracle (what else could I do). I am proud of what happened in Beijing because I did the best with what I had even though I wasn't my usual Ryan. In Boston, I will be fully Ryan
Ryan Hall coming into good shape part 2

You mean the always accurate, never wrong 11-day forecast for Boston.. HA... -
Under 60 degrees and Hall finishes in the top 3
Over 60 degrees and he does not finish in the top 5. -
If Cheruiyot is in shape then Ryan had better be "fully ryan" because he is going to need to run a course record and probably go sub 2:07 to win. Remember RC has run sub 2:08 on this course twice (i think only twice?), without pacers and without any real competition over the last 6 miles.
If Hall pulls out a win over Cheruiyot then he will have really stepped up to the next level. I would love to see it happen but somehow I don't think it's realistic, unless Cheruiyot isn't in shape. In that case the race should be Hall's to lose. -
Yesterday it was 38 degrees and very widy during my workout. Today it was 59 and little wind. Spring in Boston is very unpredictable.

Please explain how the race will play out that has Ryan Hall winning? Will he take it out hard? Will he win it in the hills? Will he wait until Boylston? I do not see any scenario that has him winning this race. In 2006 the East Africans teamed up, and worked Meb in a bad way. I see the race going out at about 62:30 and Hall struggling home.
The competition knows that Hall will go out with them no matter how fast they go out. Why? Because he has to. The Olympics showed that he does not have the discipline to run from behind. He loses confidence. -
Persistently troughy in the east in week 2...plenty of time for that to change, though.

This strikes me as a strange thing to say. -
come on now 3 times 60 is 180. 180 divided by 8 is 22 or so. so instead of an 8 mile tempo at 5:02 pace he is at 4:40 pace. seems like quite a difference.

If he is feeling anything like this, he will have a great show. -

If you watch at about 4:30, Hall tosses a water bottle to some fan, and he freaks out big time. It's the most badass thing I've ever seen during a marathon. -

Just like his 2:08 at London? -

Yeah, I get that he's running faster, I just don't understand why he's talking about running 9 minutes faster in the marathon. Maybe if he did 3x8 miles, all of which were 3 min. faster than the previous year. I dunno, maybe it's just taken out of context or something. -
I don't think Cheruiyot, the Boston champion, Cheruiyot the Chicago champion and Merga, the Olympic bronze medalist, are going into this race thinking about what Ryan Hall will or will not do.

If you read the original post you would know that he was tired going into the Olympic race. This time he says he is not & is feeling good. Get it?
Is he not allowed one off race? You must be either a flawless runner who never has an off day or someone who has never raced in his life. -
actually i was trying to be a little funny and mimic hall but it didn't come out that well. seriously should there be a 22 sec/mile difference during two buildups?
i'l post daniel's for 80 and 85 vdot

You missed the point. HE NEEDS TO RUN WITH THE LEADERS. That means if the leaders go out at 62 minutes he MUST go with them. If that is too fast, then he is in trouble because he does not have the ability to come from behind. So in order to beat Cheryout he needs to be better through the hills than him. Does that sound possible?
Not to me.
Ryan Hall has run very fast in more than one marathon and is very good. He has won only one marathon and that was over a 2:11 second place. When the pace is fast he hangs in there and finishes 5th or he doesn't go with the leaders (like the Olympics) and then he is in real trouble.
Meb had a similar ability. He could hang in there real well but he could not close the deal. Several second and third place finishes but never a factor to win. Just ask Baldini.
Khalid always found a way to win. If there were five guys together late in the race, Khalid always seemed to come through. I know that he is only a shadow of himself today so please don't bring up the Olympic Trials.
I just don't see a scenario that has Hall crossing the finish line first. It is a great story and it will draw a lot of interest for the uninformed but his chances are no beter than Meb in 2006 or Deena in 2007.
