millions? There aren't even millions of "young girls" involved in distance running in the US, much less millions who even know who Kara Goucher is. If Nike could sell a million Kara Goucher posters (to anybody at any age) per year, KG woudl be among the highest paid female athletes in America. Only top-golfers and tennis players would make more.
ok the "millions" was an over statement, but you have probably made a bigger over statement here.
one million is 0.3% of the us population. considering women from middle school-college that are distance runners there are probably very few who don't know who Kara Goucher is. chances are many of their coaches have photos or posters of her up in a locker room, or have showed a video of her race, or have seen something in the local paper, on dyestat, letsrun, Olympics coverage, world championships coverage etc. etc. her bronze medal at worlds makes her among the best there ever has been for us women, and she happens to be easy to look at which doesn't hurt in terms of drawing attraction from young fans. you are talking about women runners between the ages of 13-22 roughly, that's a lot of ladies. a lot of them probably have some serious admiration for kara goucher. even if say 20% of the college girls visit lets run and 5% of high school girls it just doesn't make sense to slam her like this and have the ones that do check it talking about it with there teammates in a misinformed negative way.
regarding the whole million posters sold per year thing, that is rediculous. posters are given away at events, and posters could have been purchased or recieved 5 or more years ago. there are plenty of photos of Kara on line which can be printed out as small "posters" or whatever and place on the wall.
