thanks for the stats, but I think he meant "pipeline" as in "oncoming supply" which Wheating, etc are. Some of them will be at 333 or better this or the next.

Like how we are gonna have like five guys going under 13 for 5000 in the next few years. People have been saying that for years and it never happens. He talks as if the US is consistantly producing 3:32 guys. No, they're not. There's Lagat, there's Webb. Once they're done, the next guy should show up in another ten years. Don't believe me? Look at the stats.
The truth of the matter is that Kenya has depth in all 3 (not 400m...) legs. They have 1:44/3:32 guys that run those marks meet in and meet out on the circuit. Those are the marks that the USA's "big guns" produce once, maybe twice a year, and sometimes it's every other year. THEN you realize Komen, Wilfred, etc., are Medal contenders who are winning on the circuit in 3:30 and 1:42 who would be Kenya's first options.
Kudos to Wariner for giving us a second on his 400m leg. Every other leg is statistically and REALISTICALLY disadvantaged.
Assuming that all of the American runners are at their peak, here's how I think the race would play out in terms of time for the Americans:
Alan Webb - 1200: 2:44
Jeremy Wariner - 400: 43.5ish
Nick Symmonds: 800: 1:44
Bernard Lagat: 1600: 3:46
Total Time - 8:57.5, new DMR world record! (with Kenya close behind in 8:59)
Spain would be a pretty good team.... Check out their 1500 squad.

Yes, assuming all the Americans are at there peak and the Kenyons have to run and juggle at the same time.

No one has mentioned the women yet. Probably not the US. Could be Russia if they are/were actually clean.
No takers on the women I guess. Good question anyways to start this thread.
Britain would do ok - ohorougu/sanders, okoro, meadows, dobriskey

400 Ohorougu: world and olympic champion, unbeatable in a race, face it yanks!
800 Okoro: 1.58. Fast time trialer but not proven in world/olmpic final and no big victories
1600: Dobriskey; 4th in olympics and male paced 4.00 1500. Good racer (Comm games champ)
the 1200 would be a weakness. Twell and England don't have the 800m speed, Susan Scott does but is not quite world class with 4.07 1500. Meadows is an 400/800 runner and wouldn't manage a good 1200. Becky Lynne would be the best bet but has been injured for 2 years. Maybe Dame kelly could make a come back?
For the men, there are currently 2 world class guys having made olympic finals, would would be a match for anyone in a DMR:
400: Rooney; great relay runner
1500: Baddeley; fastest miler in the world 2008 and winner of big races
Britain would lose ground in the other 2 events:
800: Rimmer with his 1.44 is good but not consistent enough, maybe 2009 will see a breakthrough.
1200: Lanchashire (Rimmers training partner) has solid 1.45 and 3.35 times so is good, but not quite world class.
One option is to see if Farah (or McCormick, 3.51 miler) could do the 1600 and let baddeley loose on the 1200

What would teams look like for a Tokyo 2021 DMR?
KEN

800: Ferguson ROTICH, 1:42.54 man PRd in 2019 after years, got a global medal
1600: Timothy CHERUIYOT, 1:43/3:28, the best miler in the world
USA
1200: Clayton MURPHY

Team Norway with Warholm and three Ingebrigtsens?

This. I thought Norway was an obvious omission. Any others? I'd really like to see this race.
norway would be very competitive in the 1600 and and 1200, maybe close to a tie. but they get blown away in the 800. perhaps by a couple seconds.
usa can gain a second in the 400/800 but they lose 5 seconds between the 1600/1200. easy.
on paper, kenya runs away with this.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
