Has anyone ever tried to run the marathon distance alone in race pace? Can one typically run close to race pace without the race factors? (competition, adrenaline, taper)
I'm training for the Boston Marathon and I was hoping for 2:45. My best marathon was 2:41 on a flat course. Yesterday I ran the course in 2:53. My intention was to get in a 3hr run on the course(not running the entire length). I tried to take it easy and steady, but I didn't know where the mile marks were and didn't know how fast I was running. It was quite comfortable until perhaps the last 3miles. I even took the hills really easy. I've never done a run longer than 2:20. I think this might have contributed to the fatigue at the end. I know it was not smart to run this fast in training. It was a dumb mistake. Just trying get some knowledge out of it. Thanks.
