Whos faster Cumberland or Hagerstown runners..??...Im sure the 2 clubs have raced in xcountry
If anybody runs into Fox ask him some stories about his time at Gold Medal Camp with hamster, Craze, and Woshner.
He has some good stories from his high school days (Martinsburg High School) when they battled it out with another local team. Fox lapped the second place finisher in the 2 mile state track meet (who was a teammate) and then rule at the time stated if you got lapped you had to stop!!
Glad to hear the towpath is still in good use although the best part of it was from Shepherd College towards Harpers Ferry.
Indeed they are. Spent several summers with that crew at Gold Medal Camp. Those guys could hammer the roads just as fast as they could hammer the beers down every night. Any word on Craze or Hamster. I know Woshner was still coaching in Winchester VA but fell out of touch with the other two.
Cumberland had some good runners like Dave Rinehart & Jeff
Smith. But during the 80's & 90's Hagerstown's Baker, Fox, Scuffins, Ferrari, Doub & Stevens & Pazarentzos on the female
side dominated the races between the two groups.
Who has better runners now..??..Cumberland..Hagerstown..Baltimore...Howard County..??
Cumberland has gone way downhill. Although they usually have some decent HS XC teams for small schools, the road racing and "adult" (post HS) scene is just about dead. It is due mainly to the overall decrease in population, I think the last census showed Allegany County to actually have a lower population now than in 1950, pretty amazing. It seems like overall the area's running peaked, like much of the country in the early to mid 80's, with Dave Rinehart being the best. Many of the area's youth leaves the area for college and never comes back.
ugh dont start. whatever happened to the good old Balto/Howard cty rivalry. The 10 mile race is coming up in a few weeks. Now we both have to watch out for damn Mont co cuz they have approx 100,000 members hmph(that is a really good club btw even their low key races have nice food afterward).
I had a pleasent long run with John Roemer last weekend and we were complaining about slowing- first Annapolis is so much slower than it used to be which is a symptom of all non- money runners going away. I mean if you go to a 200 dollar 5k then usually there are a few people. But still then it would be 1420,1430,1445,1530,1615,1630,1645,1650 etc.
I can vaguely remember(and he was talking about)that looking at results of even like 2 dollar entry fee club races of a 10 mile hilly race in Loch Raven with like 150 people the winning time would be like 53:30 and like 10-20 people would be under an hour. Now if you run like 58:00 its like Whoa! that guy is the man and ur in the top 3 if not the winner! When did this happen?
At least there are a few 20somethings doing well in MD but there need to be more! HS and college runners dont quit!! ull prob be kicking my ass in 2-4 years anyway >:o but thats good
Also...what about Jamie Dick? I thought he was a "lifer" down there in H'town?

CVAC 4-LIFE. Jaime is still there. He hasn't been serious about his running for some time now. The strip clubs in Martinsburg have been his downfall.
well i am umm... hannsen ;) Paul Hannsen from reisterstown. trying to get back into racing a bit.
yeah ive heard about him(Koester) a lot on this thread but i think that might have before me? really even in HS i wasnt too worried about the front people but he was obv good.
What about hmm some of the other good people- Robert Yara, Harry Goodman i beleive, Brian Pownall(he was super good in early 80s then started running again here in like 95 ran with him for like 2 years or so), of course we had to bring up "Bad" Brad Uhlfelder ;) and dont forget the supermaster Jim Pryde. Hmm who else btw none of these are Hagerstown people hehe sorry im moving into Balto plus im sure there are plenty of other good people.
I am sorry, I am friend of Jaime's I know that is not true.
He is tide up with a real job, not like some you bums. He is not living an unrealistic dream like so many runners are apt to do. I am sure his 401k is bigger than all you skinny freaks. Slog on!
It is true Jamie D has cut back his running, but he is healthy & still capable of a 15:00 min 5k if he wanted to put
in the work. Does have important job responsibility, but could
find the time to train if he so desired.
Jamie accomplished quite alot for a 10:15 kid out of high school.

hey stan. jaime might tell you about his 401k, but i think he cares about his running more than he lets on. i'd love to see him in good shape again, and i think he might get to that point again sometime soon. either way, he's a great guy who i owe a lot to. he was my team capain my first year at ship and i learned a lot from him, including knowledge of the strip bars in martinsburg.

Dude:
Chill...my previous comment about Jaime being a "lifer" in H'Town was -- in no way -- meant as a cur oor rip on Jaime. I have drank many a beer with Jaime and run many a mile with him as well -- at Ship, in Indiana, PA, in Ebensburg, PA and probably just about anywhere in between. He is an absolutely great guy who I have all the respect for in the world.
On another note, being a "lifer" in H'Town ain't necessarily a bad thing, as your message infers. Pink and gang are an interesting, fun bunch of crazy running fools...I can think of many, many "worse" places than being in H'Town. For a mid-atlantic town...it's a damn fun place.
