What ever happened to the guys that lived/trained there? Years ago they had a pretty good group there.

Buzz Sawyer is still there..a legend...he is like 76 and just ran the JFK 50 Miler again...The guy is amazing...as nice as can be and a true gentleman..always there to welcome and help a newcomer to the sport...
they got old and stoped running at the elite level. Fox now at Auburn, Baker working and drinking beer, Scuffins ???, Peffer raising chickens and farming, Spinler networking, Erdmann at EKU, Doub working and some running, Stoner ???. Kenyans back home farming. Maybe some on from there can help me.
cheers
hagerstown?? who are they? other than Fox and Scuffins, I never heard of them. what did the rest ever do.
hagerstown?? other than fox and scuffins I never heard of them. were the rest any good. they must not have been if noone knows who they are. Kenyans???
i'm currently in hagerstown and the guys mentioned are doing their thing, coaching or hunting or drinking beer. it's just a little quiet down here right now as far as the running scene goes. there's still a group of maybe 10-12 that meet every sunday at 8 am at williamsport high school to run on the c&o canal.
Baker was very good at Falmouth.

Anybody here running the Fredneck marathon this spring.?
Who are you terp runner, I go to UMD and am from the frederick area.
scuffins(2:14,28:40) fox, baker....but also ferrari(28:40,2:18) stoner(14:10,2:19) croyle(28:30) and many others all trained there at the same time...one coach, greg shank, he did it for these guys for a long time. moderate mileage, moderate everything. this group dominated mid atlantic running for 10 years. all old now and helping young guys, giving back to the sport. they had a great thing going for a long time with just each other. no sponsors. no crap.
I heard there was a group that still runs in Hagerstown too, I was thinking about heading there this Sunday. I've been looking for people to run with. I live in Northern Va, near Winchester.
I think they all ran for Brooks at one point in time. They definately dominated the Mid-Atlantic. Tom Stevens ran with them aslo.I think he was 2:16 or so. From my neck of the woods, I remember one year at Sallie Mae Fox won and Stoner and Ferrari we like 6th and 7th.
the maryland elite scene must be underground cuz you never hear much of them in local races.
OVC---I guess you didn't hear! Peff jumped bail and left the country. I heard he couldn't make any $$$ money raising chickens and corn, so he started growing a Mexican/Hawain hybred on 60 acres for the past 10 years. I heard that last yr the DEA busted the dude, but he later jumped bail and is now living w/ his off-shore account. I beleive Barbados and the word is he's coaching a mid-distance youth group. Look for an Islander influx too HJC. The last I heard from him, he changed his name to Mel-Rick Muska or something like that.
Cheers, drink more "Banks"
PS: I hear from pink, that he may show for the poker game on the 20th....
(one of the 1st farmhouse gang)
I dont think Buzz has a grandson...but the guy is 1st class all the way
WOW what news. I knew this guy was crazy but man he's ranks up there with one of the boys from the hood. Maybe Bake can sneak him back into the states and through a big party at the famous farm house. I am sure all the boys will come back to talk the talk and walk the walk. touch your self big boy and if Spinler is reading this all I can say is WHATS UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!
cheers!!!!! and drink a BAnks
Does anybody know what Terry Croyle is doing these days?
He is now the Gov. of Maryland....
Terry is back in Morgantown, WV with his wife a corporate attorney. Terry is into commercial property stuff. Great guy and very talented runner who pushed me to a few PR's. One story of Terry...goes to St. Louis Marathon and wins it in a blinding snow storm in 226 or something close. Towards end of race he injures hamstring, keeps going and ends up spending nearly all of the 5 grand he won on pt rehab.
Biggest downfall was he went to Dr. Dave Martin for testing in 1989 and was told he did not have the physical tools to run under 28 minutes, just became a bit of a head case after with his running. Used to tain with Brian Ferrari and Chris Fox.
Terri Baker was and still is the toughest dude(runner)I ever met. This man was a hard working running machine. If I remember correctly he was the only American his senior year (at Auburn) that qualified for NCCA's in the steeple, 5000m and 10,000m. That year Terri can of age!
