Cornell Men has the meet in the bag.
Cornell women need to crush Princeton in the 3000, and then win the 4 x 400m relay. Princeton will probably score higher than Cornell in the 4 x 800m.
Realy good meet. Go Big Red

Wow. Jimmy did not deserve a DQ. So what if he was happy to be winning and showed some emotion. He bowed after they started booing. What should he have done, cried? I'd think this was hilarious if it wasn't a conference race, but it is so I feel bad for him to lose the title. I know Jimmy is a bit cocky, but so are a lot of runners. He's certainly not an a$$hole in my opinion.
thanks. with his history i can understand why the dq happened.
No, he should have been a humble winner, show good sportsmanship and shake hands with his opponents. There's emotion, and then there's shameful glory. After the booing, I would have waved a hand, smiled and walked off the track like a professional.. afterall, that's what your suppose to do - act like a professional when your at a track meet.. it's business, not a showboating contest.
Princeton women mathematically clinch it!
i'm not getting paid for this shiz!

I disagree that we should be that binding with what we expect of our athletes. I though Usain Bolt's 100m celebration was fine. Similar to when basketball players chuck the ball at the rafters as time expires and they've clinched a big game. Wyner's bow was similar to Sprewell's "suck my dick bitch!" call from a few years ago. Interacting negatively with the fans is a no-no.

Exactly, it's not a showboating contest, so why DQ him for that. It's a race. He won. It's fine if you would have been more humble, but you're not him.
Not binding, but more of an expectation -- It does work for several examples.. Your at a job interview, you land the job... do you pump your fist on front of the other hopeful clients who just lost a chance at a job? Or, your playing a pick-up game, any sport -- You win, Do you really celebrate in front of the other competitors... I'd hope not.. Why? It's called being respectful and courteous to your opponents. Again Bolt's celebration was probably warranted as he smoked a World class field while setting a WR. I mean, it's a thin line, but fans, competitors, whoever, you should at the very least, try to be self-conscious of what you are ACTUALLY doing, which in this case, is running. Wait till you see your coaches after the race, then pump your fists, go off with excitement, but doing it 50m ahead of the finish.. your STILL RACING, that's disrespectful.
If Maag had any class he'd give Wyner his medal
I'm in agreeance with you, no doubt -- He won the race flat out. I'm just saying, win with some humility that's all. But you are abosulutely right, there was no reason for him to be DQ'ed.. But with your statement "i'm not him" -- Your right im not, but im also not complaining in an interview about how "Everyone in the IVY hates me". Can't have it both ways you know? If he's going to be brash as he was, and has been, then well my friend, expect some heat.

There's no doubt the man has class, but there had better be some doubt he gives Wyner the medal. Maybe if he does it'll finally make Wyner see what kind of a mentality an elite college athlete should have, and how far off that ideal he is.

You are basing an opinion of him from that interview which he did shortly after his race. He could have said a lot worse things than "everybody in the Ivy hates me."
Princeton crushed Cornell in the Women's 3000, scoring 20 points to Cornell's 2. It's over. Princeton has an insurmountable 22 point lead.
Congratulations to Princeton's Women's team.
So because he did the mature thing by not brutally dissecting the fans who may or may not have been right for booing him in the 1st place, yet however, still complained, your going to praise him? Sounds biased -- however, case in point, what he did was wrong, though he should have not been DQ'ed, hopefully he learns to humble up at the very least.
Wyner will certainly go down as one of the best runners in league history to never have won an outdoor title.
1:48/3:42/4:03/8:18 and 24:32 at VCP.
Plus part of some very fast relays- splitting close to 4:00 as part of school record 4xMiles and DMRs.
And he is responsible for Webb's olympic fallout as the pacemaker for Lomong's A standard.
Awesome job by the Princeton Ladies! Amazing job all around way to go.
He actually ran 7:59 indoors this year. His range is exceptional.
Too bad he's giving it up. He's definitely someone who could be very good.

Yes, I tend to be biased with defending my friends. However, stating my opinions on letsrun does not affect race results.
All credit to the Princeton women. Cornell competed well; Princeton performed superbly.
And the Cornell and Princeton men had another great meet. WAY TO GO, BIG RED! Congrats to Coach Taylor and crew.

This should be my last post in the thread (I know, you're heartbroken), so just a quick look ahead:
The Cornell women graduate some *major* points; but they did that a couple of years ago, and started winning Heps again a year later. Princeton graduates Offorjebe and others, but won't take as big a graduation hit as Cornell. Harvard and especially Columbia women, both teams including a lot of youngsters, were very impressive and I only expect them to become more competitive. Still, as long as the meet has SC *and* 3000 for women--and Princeton retains its distance dominance--the Tigers will have the potential to score a lot of points in an outdoor Heps.
For the men, both Princeton and Cornell will take substantial hits from graduation, but once again (just glancing quickly at results) it seems that Princeton might make out a bit better in returning scorers. Still, for the foreseeable future there should be more great contests between these outstanding programs.
