dave sullivan is a cheating bitch... he also a tool...
Anybody able to print up a short resume for Dave Sullivan? I'm trying o follow this thread and I know everyone mentioned BUT him!
Forget asking the Boston area college coaches. That's very funny. They can't even send time with their own athletes.
Start a new thread if you want to talk about Dave. This thread isn't for bashing him. I'm sure if you put up a new thread they'll be plenty of people that will chime in to rip him apart.
Back to topic, whatever happened to the CMS group? And is GLRR now becoming a more diminant force with young guys? And why does NB have their guys like Kelley, but not have a scoring NE club? Nike East?
BillCarr:
A serious question - why do you repeatedly make flippant, unflattering comments about Tom Derderian? Does this not create any tension within GBTC? Does anyone on your club see this as being disrespectful? This thread is not the first time for such comments from you. If I were posting such messages about my team's coach in a public forum, I don't think it would be well received by others on the team, not to mention by the coach himself. Maybe you don't mind speaking so openly about Tom D., but I'm honestly wondering about your rationale in writing such comments.
where are we at now?
is sully in and he fired the athletes?
who is in and who is out?
nothing like airing the dirty laundry in public.
wtf?
CMS is alive and well. Many of the guys are running snowshoe races in the winter and run the USATF NE Mountain Running series in the spring. Dunham, Bolt, Verrignton, Morse, Low... All of the major players are still running for the club. In fact if I'm not mistaken Dan Verrington won the NE Grand Prix masters series this year. There are a few new guys, including myself, who are looking to race well for a team w/ such a great tradition. See you out on the roads and trails.

Mr. Sonny,
I think for starters, Tom is first guy to make fun of his own physical stature, so don't consider those comments serious at all. Additionally, if you've ever seen him run you know how much he looks like he is in a constant state of total agony, so if he could qualify for 2 Olympic Trials and run a 2:19, then he must know something. That is exactly the case; I think he is an excellent long distance coach especially for the marathon and half-marathon distances. He also knows more about the history of the Boston Marathon than probably any other person in the world does.
However, I think that I shouldn't have to curtail criticism for one of the GBTC coaches just because this is a public forum and I'm a member of GBTC. I think Tom Derderian is at his best coaching the long distance athletes, people who have tried to train for 800-1500 under him haven't had much success. That is why we have a separate middle distance group that has a different coach - this group has had a bunch of success. Perhaps this is the error; maybe 10 years ago when Derderian was the only coach in the club he was the "face" of the club. However, GBTC is different now, which is one of the reasons I enjoy the club so much. Our coaches are all very good at their respective disciplines. For a lot of other clubs, the coach makes the club. Dave Sullivan is Athletics East - he is the financier, the coach, the administration, the judge and jury. Tom Derderian is an employee of GBTC (albeit a highly underpaid one) - we disagree all the time but I respect him quite a bit.
This is of course tied into another issue that is not Derderian's fault, that of the distance runner burnout. Between the Grand Prix, XC, and track distance, there is no offseason for those folks if they don't keep track of what is going on. That's why I said earlier that those who wish to concentrate on the 3000 or 5000 on the track only sometimes have some difficulty because they are pulled in a lot of directions. Only BAA has the numbers to really field a separate Grand Prix team. This is an issue that I think the club Board of Directors should discuss, not just Tom alone.
Apologies again for digressing. Good luck to whoever the AE defectors are - and I still think that our women's middie croo would be a good fit for the AE ladies (McCormick, Esposito, Whitmore) if they are indeed leaving the fold.
couldn't have said it better myself.
I've run for the:
Whirlaway - Dave Kazanjian is the contact at Whirlaway Golf and Running Center in Methuen (aka God's Country). He's a great guy, good motivator, but pretty conservative in his coaching views.
BRC - Tresler is a great coach, but not real interested in the little people. You have to be committed and force yourself on him if you want advice - Is he still coaching?
GBTC - I like Tom. He is a good distance coach and certainly has the stories. If you can put up with his odd elitism you'll learn a lot.
Mike from the BAA is also a really good guy. All in all they would seem to be better choices that the nutcase at AE. He should give up the coaching and look into spelling classes.
Wait! This is interesting to me as I thought about inquiring re: the "job". I think it is important to know the qualifications of the people that you may be replacing...legit question here.Nobody is asking for dirty laundry, just a short resume. also, this WAS the topic, (search for new ccoach)how did CMS, and other New England clubs become THE topic? (Although the update is interesting)
The topic hasn't been changed. To summarize, the originial author was talking about starting a new club, and someone said why bother to start a new one since a number of fine clubs are already in place.
The various clubs seem to be weighing in. Let the games continue!

I thought it said they were looking for a new coach and interested in staying together. That seems to be backed up by the quote above from the original post. But it is your right to go off topic.
I don't think we are totally sure of what we want to do. Starting a new club, joining a club, I'm not sure it was set in stone. It is just that under our old team we came together tightly as a group. We respect and care about each other. We feel that that is important in building success. Even though at the most basic level all runners run for themselves, their times, their PR's, etc. We felt that sticking with each other would give us all one more positive reason to strive toward our goals.
I would venture to say that any of the so called "defectors" have taken all of the posts, except those that are personal attacks, to be helpful and appreciated.
Hello everyone, I was one of the original athletes on AE and was the team Captain many times. I worked hard for the athletes and my coach, but I must also say that my time and effort into this team proved to be total destruction for me. I am in financial debt up to my ears and I have no interest in running competitively anymore. I am off to big and better things. I must say though, that you folks who I thought were my friends and "family" have really turned into some ugly individuals! This posting all of what went on on our message board was completely inappropriate. I know a lot of you did not like my brutal honesty a lot of the time, or my longing to be a top national runner, but you have to say that I never lied to any of you and I was always going out of my way to do things for our team. The team house really destroyed me, but I must say that it was something that I thought was going to help us out. Many of you said, " I am in." Then, you did not show up and we had some guys move out without warning, and some of you were just too sheepish to come to Boston to train. COWARDS! and now you are on this letsrun.com sight fighting away with yourselves. This is so stupid! You guys should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves! I go to Vermont and I get an e-mail from a GBTC ATHLETE asking me for the truth of the matter. So, I gave him the truth. You are all in the wrong! OUr Coach, myself maybe, and all of you are in the wrong. This is more of a disgrace to our sport than P-Diddy! Most of you are teachers, coaches, and professionals, but yet, here you are exploiting team stuff for the benefit of yourselves. This is not team work. I am coaching now, and I will tell you what, I would not touch any of you for one moment. However, most of you will always be my friends and "Family". You see, I know that most of you will hate me after you read this and luagh that I called you my friends and family, but love is tough. Love is also brutally honest. Guys, this stuff is not from the people that I once trained with everyday. This is not incumbent of you guys. Please, rethink what you are doing to yourselves inside of your hearts and minds. Hatred, nonforgiveness, and exploitation are not of a true athlete. A true athlete is honest, sportsmanlike, spiritual, loving, introspective, and thoughtful. These words may sound very luvvey duvvey, but it is the truth. If you did not like what someone may have done to you, then move on and make a positive and honest effort to do just the opposite. I have learned alot by this whole situation and am using it in my own coaching now. My athletes are only 15 to 17 years old and they would never act in this manner, because I have taught them in one day that this is not the way that great athletes conduct themselves. COntrary to what many of you "realistically" think, many of us could have gone to the Olympic Trials or a national level in time. You have to be patient, and unrelenting to make your dreams come true. I know you all still have that, because if you didn't, you would not have been on AE to begin with. I hope that you all will make the right decisions for yourselves, and for our sport. You all have what it takes, but until you change the way you guys are conducting yourselves, it is not worth it for any coach to touch you. ------Your Friend, Travis D.-
Is Athletics East a team for "special" people?
Is Athletics East a team for "special" people?
Wow, was that ever incredibly inappropriate. Travis, why not email the guys directly if you wanted to write something like that. And I think a good deal of the team/coach bashing came from non-team members, ie. just people who know the coach. This thread was put up in search of a new training group, and I don't think had any intension of becoming a team trash talking event. But some people decided to voice their opinion on it, and why shouldn't they. Maybe it just goes to show what a mess that team was. And why is it anyone else's fault you got yourself in debt?
