Hi everyone. I'm new to this blog although I have checked in on it over the last few years. I researched Dr Brown and found him two years ago. My husband has had chronic growing pain for over 20 years and has been misdiagnosed several times. He has had nerve ablation's, Botox injections, hernia repair, even reconstructive hip surgery; none of which have worked. After researching pain in the groin area, I found Dr Brown in San Jose. Two years later we finally flew up to see him had a consultation and my husband finally had surgery last Friday, July 7, 2017. He is in recovery now and I'm praying that this did the trick. Dr Brown was very confident that he saw a broken down where the inguinal ligament attaches as well as a few other issues that were going on in there causing his pain. How has everybody success then with surgeries on sports hernia's?
How is your husband's recovery going? I have already had hip surgery and also saw Brown but unsure about how to proceed with hernia surgery?
Did you end up having surgery with Dr. Brown?
I'm late joining this discussion, but had SH/AP surgery done by Dr. Brown this summer and, since most of what I learned about the injury prior to contacting him was from LRC, I'd be happy to answer specific questions anyone might have. For now I'll simply say I couldn't be happier with the process and outcome.
Hey, just met brown. Probably going to have surgury soon, any tips on recovery ect... I'm a healthy 18 year old(Basketball & pitching is what I do) advice, head ups would be much appreciated.
Our injuries/surgeries obviously may not be exactly the same (I had a torn adductor tendon as well as an abdominal muscle tear) and Dr. Brown will of course help guide you through the recovery process, but for what it’s worth, my recovery went like this: I walked around the block a couple times the day after surgery, worked up to several miles of walking over the course of 3 weeks, added some swimming the next week, began short jogs the following week, and started lifting light weights in week 6. One thing that should make your recovery easier is that you’re 18 and I’m 50. However, I think you’ll have to be more careful about resuming something like basketball that requires more explosive movement in general and lateral movement in particular. Even if I was 18 and could still dunk a basketball, I’m guessing it would’ve been 8 weeks or more before I wanted to try it again.
Thanks for the reply! Dr Brown was amazing, but our insurance wasn't in their network, so I went w/ a surgeon he referred. I didn't have any problems with adductor, just oblique internal and external tear. On day 4 feeling alright, what were the most beneficial rehab exercises for you?
I more-or-less laid out my rehab above. I can’t point to one thing that was uniquely helpful beyond simply being patient. Although that’s typically not my strong suit, this didn’t seem like an injury to mess around with. Sitting here a few months later feeling fully recovered, I’m very glad I took it slow.
Hi Fuerza:
I've read many of your posts and I was wondering if you're still active on the LetsRun site. Thanks.
How’d everything turn out with your surgery after all this time? I have an appt next week
Sudhir,
can we talk about your recovery?
I have a suspected sports hernia and looking for good doctors in the US to verify and provide options. Can anyone help? I am in Cincinnati area.
There's a Facebook group for people dealing with sports hernias that has a list of doctors with experience treating the injury. If I recall correctly, there's one on the list who's at Ohio State.
Does Dr brown also work on labrum tears with SH/AP?
I don't know, but I bet Dr. Brown's office could tell you. In my experience, they are very responsive via email and phone.
@Jodeci23 how are you doing now post mesh removal ? Did Dr. Muschaweck cut any nerves? If so what was your recovery experience with neurectomy?

msnyc,
Just got off the phone with Meyers office and Dr. Schuricht in PA....Dr. Schuricht takes BC/BS.
Probably a long shot that you'd see this, but did you (or anyone else) go with Schuricht? I was recommended to him by a doctor at Rothman and my sports chiro. I was curious to see how it may have gone or any feedback on it.
Has anyone been successful to get rid of his or her sports hernia without surgery?
