Oh goddammit! The force of the sun's gravity is immaterial here. the missile, once free of the earth's gravity and on the right trajectory, would travel to where the sun is, even if the sun was not there or if the sun had no gravity. don't you get it? The missile would only require the amount of fuel necessary to get away from the earth in order to get the 93 millions miles away. it would not NEED the sun's gravity to help it there. The sun's gravity would only make it accelerate along its path.
Lolzorz hipster emocore nuke rocket escapes earth's gravity. "Thinks" it's free. Does not realize it's a pawn in the greater galactical regime. Drifting in our solar system, and our solar system, making an orbit of the Milky Way.
Morons! Escaping Earth's gravity would only put it into its own orbit around the sun. That's the wrong trajectory - sideways. To actually get to the sun it would have to use huge amounts of fuel to get rid of its own orbital energy. To lift that amount of fuel into Earth-escape in the first place takes an even huger amount of fuel.
The proper way to destroy the sun is with a high-powered laser weapon. Light doesn't require fuel to travel.
Best bet would be to collide it with another star at least twice its mass. Then after a while the sun will blow up all by itself. Won't happen next week though.
Trump may think this is a good idea. He should go out with a "BANG" before Biden's Inauguration.
Why don’t we take all our trash and nukes and shoot them in the direction of the sun?
The first page of this thread shows that most around here 12 years ago were smart. And not a single political comment, Greg comment, or Covid comment on that page, either.
Refreshing.

No it doesnt. It shows that even 12 years ago people were making posts that were cringingly embarrassing. And that a few people who wanted to pretend like they knew something about nuclear physics (or physics at all) felt the need to reply to it with useless wikipedia data to show off rather than just saying "why are you stupid?" or better yet ignoring it. Thats about how things still operate here now. The only reason there are no blatant political posts is because 12 years ago all the Trumpists and right wing nut jobs were tea partiers at best and hadnt had time to lose their minds over the fact that we had a black president yet.

Would do nothing at all to the sun.

I would agree that this thread is an example of when Letsrun was good and not bogged down with political/race baiting threads.
