Bump! Still pain when area is tapped on!?! Normal?
hello everybody. I got a stress fracture on my 4th metatarsal bone in may... I found out two weeks after it happened, because I have problems with my spine and sometimes it reflects on my legs... That's why I kept running with this pain in the leg, but finally it was hard to put up with it and I got an x-ray that showed the fracture. I was't allowed to step on it for 5 weeks... The pain after that was still really bad... I have tried any kind of rehabilitation but can't tell that it really helped. I got an MRI, that showed, that I have an extra quantity of bone, that pokes the muscles in this area.. all the doctors promised that it will go away... bu it needs time... I am addicted to practicing, so I started practicing a bit.... but no running at all.... the pain started goin away... It's january now... Last month I wasn't feeling it at all ( I started running and it was great) But from New Years eve to now this pain is back... and I am really worried... I think that I will never get rid of it.... Actually whenever I don't feel it for a short period of time, I feel strange... it's that bad....
I was just told from my Dr about four weeks ago that I have a hairline/stress fracture in my tibia. I was playing softball and my leg hit third base wrong while I was sliding. I have been in a boot foe four weeks I just got off my crutches last week and I should be able to walk without the boot after my apt this coming monday. I know that you have to be careful and let it heal in its own time but my dr said he won't give me a time frame in which I should be able to start being active again so I was wondering if anyone knew from past experiences how long I should wait.

Hey justintherunner...
How bad did the pain hurt?
My doc said I had a stress reaction.
I went three weeks in the boot, some elliptical the last week of that for cross training. I've done some running in the gtrainer, no issues, but walking around seems to inflame it. Do you have any insight?
I know this is a super old thread but my doctor is 8 hours away for the rest of the summer. I was diagnosed with a cuboid stress fracture and have been nonweight bearing for 6 weeks. I saw my doc before leaving the state for the summer (I go to college and am home for the summer) and he told me to stay on crutches until the aching pain stops. It's gotten better but it hasn't stopped yet. So today I took my boot off and noticed that my foot had really swelled up but did not hurt very much today. Is that normal or should I be concerned? The crutches are getting old and extremely limit me at work. I just want to be able to walk again, whether that be in a boot or not! Thanks in advance, any input would be great.
Hi, in 2011 I developed stress fractures in my femoral neck on both sides caused by carrying excessive weight for a great distance. I was put into physical therapy for 8 months. Bone scans and MRI showed it healed. Then in early 2012 the same thing happened, both sides again. On the first injury it was severe pain that gradually faded over time. The second injury was father up the bone and had no pain. But my leg didnt want to cooperate when marching or walking fast. Had to shift my body to make it function to walk. Now, 5 years later, I still have pain and aches in my hips if I walk too far or too much.

I have experienced this myself. I was told by doctors taht after a stress fracture it is normal to have residual pain, for one because your body is used to having pain there and also because the new bone growth is not smooth and kind of pokes the muscle, etc. It is all perfectly normal though, and I have never known someone who doesn't have residual pain coming back from a stress fracture. I had a severe stress fracture in my metatarsal a few years back, took itme off, and it still hurt a lot for quite a while, but I continued running and the pain eventually went away. Hope this was of some use.
