Back in the day we'd spend at least a few hours on some of our long road trips trashing D1 and the Ivies. DI for their relatively poor academics, willing to take anyone with a heartbeat and a checkbook, as well as of poor moral character in general. Then we'd turn to the Ivies (as well as some of the top DIII schools, for being a bunch of hypocrites who'd say they were non-scholarship but then would find ways to fund talented runners through financial aid.
yea, see, me and my d1 friends don't sit around finding ways to trash huge groups of people who we don't know, but i guess that comes with being a good person.
I was being somewhat facetious you moron. But our coach did like to tell stories about how a multimillionaire industrialist was interested in being a benefactor to our school, but as part of his visit he wanted the admin to line up some girls for a good time. They said no, and he gave his money elsewhere.
But hey, don't even get me started on 'good' christians who wear their morality on their sleeves...
actually, through life experience in academia, I've had a fair sampling of most aspects of academia: attended DI for a year as an undergrad before going to grad; worked at an Ivy for a few years; and then got another grad degree at a 2nd tier DII school, followed by teaching at DIII directional (satellite school) and big DI. People can be just as smart at the most backwater institution as at the big time schools. In other words you can get a pretty decent education anywhere, and if you're really into it grad school is the great equalizer.
