If I start training my soles/lower leg muscles for barefoot running starting from scratch in december, would my body, preferably the soles of my feet, be ready to complete a road 5k race by the middle of may? Any advice?

I wouldn't start in december unless you live somewhere where it is warm year round. It is really tough to condition your feet for the first time in cold weather.
It's not worth trying. But if you do it, do it gradually. I went on a six miler my first time barefoot and my soles were completely blistered. Biggest and worst blisters ever.
I live in a very warm place, is the goal for may possible?
Depends.
Some Qs for starters:
- What times do you run now?
- How much mileage?
- How fast do you want to race?
- What surface will the race be on?
- How hot will it be?
- Can you provide some details on your running form?
- Why do you want to do this?
Some maybe inclined to say Impossible is nothing. A barefoot 5K in 5-6 months is, in general, possible.
addendum:
- re surface, yes road, but it would help to describe the texture of the asphalt. From experience, roads are surfaced with anything that feels from smooth-and-flat to rocky-and-treacherous...
I have a smooth midfoot landing, i have a pretty natural form, i averaged about 40 miles a week in high school, after an agrivating calf injury during outdoor track season my senior year i decided to hang em up, it is now october of my freshman year in college and i realized i don't want to hang em up( so i am coming off a long lay off) my first goal is to run this road race the 2nd week of may barefoot, its on decently paved asphalt. My 5k pr in high school was 17:00, anything under 18 barefoot i would be very proud of. Barefoot running just appeals to me, i love being barefoot, and i would love to go to this road race at my old high school (the winning time is usually around 17:xx) and run it barefoot. Not only for self pride, but so the people at my alma runner can see that i have made a comeback, and i just won/did well in the 5k barefoot??!!
warning: To much, to soon, to fast....will also cause injury.
when I started I carried my flat's in my hands and would run 2 minutes barefoot 6 minutes with shoes on soft grass and would build my way up each week to less and less time in shoes...if you don't you could get hurt very easily. your muscles need time to adjusted....20 plus years is along time to start over.....allow your to adjusted.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
