I have a question that may also be of interest to the OP, although he may already know the answer.
When doing one of these 8-10x400 workouts at mile race pace is it ok to do walking rest? For instance, today I did 8x400 with equal rest (which for me was about 1:15ish). But during these rest breaks I walked, rather than jogged. Is that bad?
Walking is OK when you first start out, but you want to be jogging as a rule when resting. Walking means you are doing a more anaerobic workout, and the equal rest time also indicates that is true. IF you want a more aerobic workout, cut the rest down to 200s or use the 2 to 1 rule: work duration is 2 times the rest period- so your 400's would be 1:15 and then a 35-40 second rest.
