they have hired a former coach as the interim head coach and a local pro (female former Olympian) to take up the cross and distance coaching also on a interim basis.

Cortney Babcock
I say give the job to Ford and Mcgowen, with Ford being an elite athlete in the UK he can recruit some of the best guys in England and Mcgowen is tough as hell between them they will turn that programme around
It's already a done deal....Cortney is it
UM football is much different than most other I-AA programs. For one, they have a bigger stadium that sells out every game, plus they make a crapload from endorsements, not to mention the student body they attract for the school just because of the football program. I don't know what kind of profit they produce, but the entire town and half of the state supports UM football in a huge way. I'm not a Griz fan myself, but to compare the xc team to the football team is ridiculous.
I couldn't tell you who won the I-A championship last year, but I think Appalachian State played in the I-AA.
Easy MOney... if you'd ever been to Montana you'd see the reasons for living there.
Hayduke... UM is Division I.
that's "courtney," not cortney
So was there a reason why all this happened this way? And what is so spectacular about this cortny (haha sp, did it on purpose) that she gets the job over the original 4?
It seemed like things just sort of fell through unexpectedly. They waited too long to make a decision and their top choices turned them down. The final interviews probably didn't go too well for some of them (hence they didn't get an offer) or else they pulled their name out before an offer was made. With such short time they had to go with someone close (because who else would be a legitimate choice AND decide to move to Missoula so close to the season). Courtney is an extremely talented runner and local so choosing her makes a lot of sense to me.I'd still be pissed if I was on the team since it's a few weeks out of the season and the kids are just now getting a coach, but at least they didn't just pull any ol' bum off the street to coach the team. Best of luck to the Griz this year!

The real irony here is that Raunig said six months ago, at the start of the process, that there was a local female who wasn't necessarily qualified but really wanted the job. If it's true, that is exactly where things are headed. The Montana administration should be fired since the job posted on 4/1/08 and on 8/7/08 they have not filled the position with a good coach.
She isn't the female Raunig was talking about. I know who it was and it definitely wasn't Courtney.
Good for Courtney. I think she'll do a fine job.
I'm curious who the other female was.
And...they got the female coach they wanted. anyone surprised?
The other female was one of her teammates ironically....wonder how that is going over??!

Andrea Grove I'd guess. Pure speculation though.
No, it wasn't Grove either.
aneta lemiesz or vicki lynch-pounds. not many choices left.
According to my sources (reliable) it was in fact Grove that Rauning was talking about. She has been applying for other coaching jobs around the country and had talked to him about the job before it was even posted. I know for a fact that she wanted the job and a lot of people wanted her to get it.....
Not to mention the Polish girl (Aneta) moved back to Europe and I think the other lady (Lynch-Pounds) has like 3 kids....a little too busy to coach. I wouldn't be suprised if any of the people involved have been reading these posts maybe one of them will actually tell us what's up??
It was Grove. Neither one is qualified for the position, not even close. What a mess.
qualified enough for an interim position.....not to mention I bet they could both run faster than you!
