Notice on the start of the men's 100-
Notice the building? That building behind the start blocks nearly ALL of the incoming wind onto the track- so technically there can be little advantage from a tailwind in the first 50 meters or so of the race. The track in Eugene especially the home side of the track is heavily shielded from the wind. It is my opinion that the wind did not help Tyson Gay as much as we think it did- if it did it only helped him (over the legal limit) after the 60-70 meter point, at which point he held a commanding lead over the field.
Now, since he was infron of the other competitors, the tailwind was being blocked by the other athletes, giving them an advantage in time, while Tyson gay recieved very little. IMO Tyson Gay's run was not aided by wind as much as the 4.1 reading shows. He is on-par if not superior too Usain Bolt.
Please consider these factors when thinking about how good Tyson Gay is or is not- remember he did ease up the last 10 meters of his 9.77 run. And Usain Bolt hadn't run a series of heats before he ran 9.72. We'll see how they do in Beijing.
