And will they all be gold?
Also, can anyone explain how the 4x4 pools are determined? How could Tyson even end up running the 4x4 at all?

They can take runners from the 200 for the 4x400 pool.
Has Gay ever run a fast 400? It quite possible that he wouldn't do well.
Even if we Gay ran the 4x4, the remaining 3 runners would make enough space by the finish. US seems fairly dominant in the 4x4.
1) He still needs to make the team in the 200. It is the US Trials where the defending Olympic champion cannot make the team and the world leader gets beat out for a spot.
2) The US 4x100 team needs to learn to pass a baton. Not something I would bank on!
I would not run Gay in the 4x4.
I would have him focus specifically on the 100 after yesterday, and the 4x1. Gay's toughest events will be the 100 and 4x1. Jamaica could take the 4x1 very easily, and as proved in Athens, it could be anybodies race. Tyson is going to have to run his ass off. The 200 might as well be his at this point, as judging from his improvement just recently, he should be able to crack 19.5. As good as Usain Bolt is, 19.5 is a bit out of his reach IMO. His height effects him alot on the turn in the 200-
Usain Bolt could likely be the fastest closer in a 4x1 though, as he would already be moving his long legs- which is why we need Tyson (who is more 200/100 than Bolt) focusing on the 100 and 4x1 to bring in as much Gold as possible.
In the 4x1, Dix and Patton are going to have to give 100% as well if they want a relay Gold. Jamaica is still just too strong this year to not give anything less than 100%-
Right now the only sprints that are assured Gold are the mens 400, 400h, and 4x4. And that sucks for USA sprinting. The 200 guys, the 100 and 4x1 guys are going to have to give 100%. There is no option- they will be going home with silver or worse and there will be a whole new crop of (Demps) sprinters to take their place in 2012. This is their chance.
They're not going to pick him for the 4x400. The U.S. has too many excellent 400 runners.
