Everyone is different, so it's tough to say for sure. I usually try to make sure that the next run after a hard effort is very easy (usually much easier than you think easy should be). I also make sure that one day/week is dedicated to recovery.
The bottom line is that you need to take enough recovery so that you are ready/rested for your next hard effort.
