Anybody remember who beat Johnson leading up to the 1996 olympics?
Even the great ones lose occasionally.

While this is nothing to panic about, the old Wariner wouldn't have lost.
Sure. Look at his record going into the World's in '05 for example. I doubt early losses, and this is early for the Games, are that big a deal. Wejo and crew rag on him because he's white. They wouldn't show the same 'courage' regarding any black athlete UNLESS drove of others have already ragged on that athlete.

I know that others share this view, and I'll admit I don't know the particular circumstances of that race. Nevertheless, in my mind if you line up at the start and somebody else gets to the finish (legally) before you do, you've lost and he's beaten you.
I was in a bike race that Lance Armstong droped out of. I finished near the back of the pack. I can say according to your logic that, I beat Lance Armstong in a bike race. ALL RIGHT!!!!!!
another example :
geb dnf'ed london marathon one year - 20k people completed it - so each one beat him & can claim they were better than him

Of course they're better than him, according to letsrun logic.
.....anyone still thinking about picking against him at the trials?
