Why was it named after her?

Her name was mentioned a crap load in the song so the band decided that they might as well name it after her.
It's like having something horrible like Lou Gehrig's disease named after you. It made her famous, but at what cost? AT WHAT COST I ASK YOU??? Shudder.
Keep shuddering Pete Swift - yeah shudder some more while Delilah keeps running faster.
I still like Zemzem!
someone's sounds like he's jealous no one named a song after him

You're correct. I dream that Natalie Merchant would write a song about me.
But the thing about that Delilah song...it's horrible. Mind blowingly blahsical.

thing about it is, that's your opinion of a song. yet you're treating it like it's a fact. music is art, based on opinion. so tell me again why she should be upset that a song that millions of people liked, and one dude on letsrun didn't like, was named after her?

The opinion of one genius is more important than the opinion of millions of tastless idiots. Delilah should be upset that I, Pete Swift, hate that turdtacular song.

Really? I heard she's a drama queen, and extremely self-centered.
I have heard this to from a gal that used to work at a youth camp with Delilah back in Maine.
Not fun to be around.
Not fun at all.

The whole song was about her. He saw her at a meet and thought she beautiful, and then decided to write a song about her, or something like that.

TRUE,the entire song was written about her, but not because the lead singer of the "Plain White T's" saw her at a track meet. He met her at a party during the Holidays back in NYC that a buddy of his gave while she was a student attending Columbia University, and the guy ( Higgenson ) got introduced to her.
They exchanged e-mail addresses and they kept in touch, even though she already had a boyfriend and wasn't into the guy at all.
He kept telling her that he had written this song about her, even though he hadn't. He finally finished it and it went to #1 on the charts over the Summer.
The band has made a FORTUNE off of it, and yet Delilah and Higgenson never actually went out!

And thus was born a truly worthless and crappy song. How magical.

You are quite welcome.
Do you always enjoy looking like a total Fool???
LOL~!
IS THERE A DELILAH IN REAL LIFE?
"Yes! I met this girl Delilah and thought she was the most gorgeous girl I had ever seen, so I told her I would write a song about her, just to flirt with her. She'd always ask me about it and I'd tell her, "I'm going to write the song, and it's going to be the best song I've written, it's going to be the song that gets us famous and wins us a Grammy!" I said all this before I had written a single note of the song. Sometimes the mind is stronger than you think — before I wrote it, I believed it. But Delilah and I never actually went out! I'm not really in touch with her that much now, but we'll talk every once in a while."
http://www.cosmogirl.com/entertainment/celeb-qa/tom-higgenson-0507Yeah, and by the way did you hear that she just ran 9:43 in the steeplechase?!
9:43.57 to be exact
Maybe I have poor taste, but I like the song.

Talk about mind blowingly blahsical. Have you heard any of her shit from the past 15 years???
